Hit the farm, interesting finds

Hello All,
Went to an old homestead in Alabama this past weekend. Had to bush-hog the area first to get to it. Found some farming implements and a lot of old nails. Three cigarette lighters which surprised me. Only one coin, a 1918 Buff nickel. (rang up at 14-15) I have posted some pix of the finds. 35-39 sounds were everywhere. A lot of old cans and nails. A couple of items I am not sure about. One appears to be a scabbard tip of some sort and a drawer pull? The round dist with lines on it is truly a mystery. Any ideas are welcome. It seems to be copper. It rang up in the 31-35 range if I recall. Couldn't see a thing on it till I rinsed it off. The harmonica reed was found down here in the Tampa Bay area. That was a shocker when I saw it. Was expecting a penny at 34.
Thanks for looking

Nice hunt there, Bunky. A potpourri of finds. Maybe a light film of olive or baby oil on the disc will bring out some detail? Was there any recent rain to ease that hard crimson clay during recovery ? I think your pictures always seem to come out well. Do you enable macros on every picture ?

Hey kschae4,
Thanks, I did put some olive oil on it after the pix. I don't use macro all the time but I do run them through Photo Shop to adjust them a bit. They have had zero rain in Wedowee Alabama for about a month and a half at least. Ground was as hard as cement. Thought about taking the tractor back and disc out there and roughing up the ground a bit. I will hit it again in October. The scabbard turns out to be an old fountain pen top. The swirling disk could be a wick holder for a oil lamp or a drawer pull. Still have no idea about the light colored disk.

Interesting finds! the ground never ceases to amaze me as it gives up unusual and hard to identify objects!! What is the disc made of?

Thanks Goldstrike, love finding those relics. I believe that the disk is made of copper. As I recall, it rang up around 35.

Hey Bunky, sure sounded like tough digging. We've just received a whole lotta rain here in central jersey on up to NYC. Should help the weekend hunting big time.
Glad you've got that 'bama site to search. I had only wished that I was into detecting in the late 70's when as a contractor for a petroleum company, we looked for coal & lignite down in SE Alabama. We had landowner permission to run a probe beneath the water table (140 ft approx). A drilling team would do their thing so while waiting for the hole to be ready, we had like a1/2 hour down time between each drilled hole, which gave me the chance to scan the plowed under fields for arrowheads. As I look back now, those old slave shacks and out buildings would've been SO promising for a md'er !..If only I could get back there now......
I'll check into photo shop,thanks!

Hey kschae4, Good luck with this weekends hunting. The folks that I stay with when I am there are lining up other hunts for me as well. Sweet!!! Can only imagine what it would have been like in the 70's. A lot of stuff has been found between then and now. Although they say that 90% is still in the ground, masked one way or the other. Have to fly this weekend but will hit it hard again next week.
Look forward to seeing your finds.
