how does one detect among a field of pull tabs?

Was noticing last night while in a mess of pull tabs that the #'s never changed from one target to the next.Tried running in TTF very slow sweep speed and display time out off, and was waiting for the processor to burn up since it can't begin to read all the signals. Blocking out pull tabs is there any chance of finding coins or will all signals be masked? Hunting for hour and a half never saw anything in 40's except 35-46's. It's an old park and we have found a number of 1900 coins but with extreme wet ground it's like they are all gone.

Patience because it is annoying as heck.

I would discriminate them out. You will get some nulling but I know you will still be able to pickup coins. I do it all the time.

Dig them all or dig none of them... or... dig some of them/

There ain't no sure way to be sure.

If you dont dig squaretabs you will only miss gold rings, nickels, and brass buttons.... (i'd dig them).

I know I tread on dangerous ground here but some detectors can give a little more Sq Tab info by switching frequencies and also switching between normalize and non-normalize...

But I think with the right coil, perhaps a 6x8 SEF and checking from different angles you might be able to cherry pick among tabs... but just as soon as you are absoultely sure... you'l find you're wrong.. so just dig them... unless there is nothing old in the area.

In the trashiest of trash next to picnic tables I creep really slow with 6" coil using NO DISC listening for high tones. Pretty easy to pluck copper and silver. Gold forget about it...

+1 to this.. use a 6" or the 6x8 SEF as somone mentioned above. This works, I actually look for spots with high trash volumes just for this purpose... most hunters get frustrated and leave. Creep along as slow as possible and use your ears. Last week I did this and pulled two mercs out of an area with an absolute carpet of trash signals.

6 inch coil, conductive.
Go over it first and listen for the high tones, Go over it second with the disc on the most common tabs you find. Don't let all the talk syke ya out...let the machine do its job of discriminating. IF you start to find stuff try it again from different angels. Not every null is a bad thing and the machine can still find a good target in a null.

good luck

Was out again the other night Andy's pattern multi-tone conductive, pushed sensativity down to 20 , dug 3-4 nails falses which l assumed before I dug them, but wanted to dig something. A hound started baying across the crk and so I was watching to see why it was baying as I was swinging slow listening for high tones.Went around a tree and looked back where I thought I had just come through and there was a black 6" CD on the grass. Walked over and picked it up. It was the coil cover that had wore completly off all around the edges till it fell off. Waiting for another one to come in, Will go back today with the 6x8 sef and try to scare something out 5hours now with out silver or wheat I know they are there. But like someone mentioned after 2-3 floods stuff is deeeeeep.I prefer to hunt in an old ghost town dealing with rusty metal instead of pull tabs. Thanks for all the posts and I will up date if I can start finding stuff.

I keep a trash bag in the trunk of the car to put aluminum in. It's a curse and a blessing because without it all the popular spots would really be cleaned out, but with it there a lot of good finds still exist. Luckily we all enjoy the hunt and understand that when we score it is well earned. There is no free lunch in the sport of detecting. I will hit a trash infested area for a couple hours then I move away from it to take a break from the tones to a cleaner area then eventually work my way back to it because there are good finds in the trash. Pulled 4 wheats out of a trashy area a while ago and will return to find the silver. Good luck.
