How does this work

We find these copper cannon fuses quite frequently on the campus. jkline found an old pic where a cannon is seen in the area we hunt. In fact the statute in the background is still there.
I’ve tried to find anything that tells how they work and what type cannons they work in but I cant seem to locate anything specific. Anyone have knowledge???? Here is an example of one I found today in pretty good condition (nickels for size) and an internet add for a bundle of them.

Confetrit and I think SteveO might have that info for you ,, shoot them a link and see if they can help ya .
Thanks there hawg but my expertise isnt in relics, rev or civil war items. .. .I'm mostly a old coinage hunter. . .and I'm a Yankee. . . . civil war items are scarce around here except in Gettysburg. You get caught with a detector there, they shoot to kill. . . exaggeration, but not by much, lol.. Sorry Ron.

Had to laugh, sent you guys a PM and Confetrit tapped the message with a “like” so thinking maybe didnt realize it was a PM. ANYWAYS, I’m still not finding a lot of info on how these work. One would think in these days of YouTube there would be a tutorial……..

Y'all know Keith Southern. . . . . if he doesn't know who does... . . . .. where is he at these days?

They are Friction fuses that were inserted in the touch hole of the Artillery piece.

Guys that helped clear that up bunches! Thanks!!!
