how hot is too hot?

here is my dilema.........my work is 45 minutes away and I like to take my detector with me, so that I can hunt after work, right now it is only about 80 degrees out, but what about when it is 90 degrees, is my etrac safe inside my trunk all day? There is no shade to park in, and taking the etrac inside work is not an option. It is cooler in the trunk that inside the car. My thoughts were making some sort of styrofoam cooler and cut it so the control box fits inside and can be insulated in a way. that ought to keep the heat down to safe levels. What is your thoughts?

i agree with that. you could even get one of those blue freezer packs to keep the head unit cool. but i wouldnt worry about it too much.

I do it all summer long. Use a square zip up cooler and just put the head of the Etrac in. Then I usually wrap it with a thick winter coat. Never had an issue.

sounds like a good idea!

i do worry about freezer packs around the contral area as any condensation could cause all sorts of problems so i would defo check with manufacturer to get their answers if any to this problem cant beleave you have temperatures that hot how do you hunt DO YOU MELT LOL

If you can put a thermometer in your trunk now maybe it will give you some idea what it will be like when the temperature rises. I think the Minelab can take the heat but I would remove the batteries. I hauled a detector around for years and never gave it a thought. Now I'm retired and know for sure the machine will last longer in the heat than me. :beers: HH :minelab:

Read the specs. on the last pages of your owners manual. It tells you the safe hot/cold/humidity temps for your machine..........NGE

best and cheapest is to wrap hole detector in some sleeping bag it will stay in stable temperatures will be ready all the time, no need to take apart, no condensation, no extrem vibration and will safe from extra heat. cheap and simple.

I have only hab my etrac since Feb but I have always kept a case of water in my trunk. I keep it wrapped in a moving blanket and in the heat of the summer (90-100 degree humid days) I can pull a water out and it be plenty cool enough to drink. I would say the water was 45-50 degrees. I just wish the rest of the car would stay that temp...

I dont have any concerns with the high temps. I can tell you that my E-Trac has seen minus 20F...Forgot to take it out of my car after showing it to my dad..cant see why it would hurt anything. My radio/nav in the car puts up with it everyday in the winter. as low as minus 40.

Thanks Goes4ever,

Excellent post and great responses. 90% of the time I bring my detector in, but it's nice to know that if I forget or leave in the car for the next days hunt I don't need to worry about it. Some great Ideas for those longer exposed detectors as well. I also use a heavier blanket over my detector if a shade tree isn't available.
