While I've only been on this forum a short time I've realized there is a lot of experience here. How many years have you been at it? I've been swinging a detector for 10 years now. Wonder what our combined total will be.
About 17 years......started out with a Radioshack ......dug all signals because the discrimination didn't work. Found about $40.00 that year. I tried and bought a GTA 500 Ultra a year later, and it found about $260.00. The rest is history.....
I had bought a couple used detectors and used them on & off for a few years, then added a couple more used detectors. Then I found me a decent silver coin spot and started to get into it a little more, but that made me want a better detector as I was putting more time into it. So about 1984 I bought my first brand new detector. That got me really started and I hunted usually a couple evenings a week and on my days off work a good bit for about a year.
So - since about 1984 is where I say I started. Don't count the on/off before that.
I remember some years back that my neighbor bought that same Micronta detector from Radio Shack. He didn't feel right borrowing one of mine all the time. So he bought that Micronta new. He let me try it. I remember getting a buried sprinkler head with it. Not much else I remember. I think he gave it up after a week or two with it. That's when I gave him my Red Baron. I wasn't ready yet to give my Compass that he liked.
Started with a Bounty Hunter and moved on to the Garrett GTA 1000, GTI 1500, GTI 2000,and the GTI 2500... Can't wait for a new top of the line detector from Garrett.
I started out on a used Garrett back in the 70's. Honestly I don't even remember the model. I was in the service then and I got depolyed in 79 and I did'nt tect for about 10 - 15 years. Then I got a bounty hunter TKIV that I used about 3 times a year then Last year I moved up to my 1350 and thats when I got serious about it and now when the weather is good I get out about twice a week.
7 years. I started out with a Tracker 4. I used it on and off for 2 to 3 years, bought a Sovereign, saw the X-Terra when I was released, traded in the Sovereign and went on from strength to strength from there.
