How Many of you have ever found a Hobo Nickel?

It is on my "want-to-find" list before I die. For those who have never seen one, here is a tinyurl link to a google image search on them. http://tinyurl.com/y8pbqhh

Back in the 1930's or so, hobos used to carve these nickels to pay for lodging, food, etc. Some are amazing. I don't know of anyone who has found one. How about you good folks? If so, could you share a pic?

About a year ago or longer someone posted about the Hobo nickel.
I think it was more a question. I don't recollect they posted a picture.
I'd like to fine one of these myself.

Man I haven't heard that term (Hobo Nickel) in a long while. Not that I'm not from the 30s, but I recall the term - just been a few years.

Yeah I've seen a few but never lucky enough to find one. Some of those boys were real; artists. My stepdad who done some hoboing during the Depression first told me about them. Hobos were pretty innovative when it came to scrounging up a quarter for something to eat. Back then you could eat all day on a quarter but most folks didn't have too many of them. A quarter back then was equal to twenty bucks today. When I was a kid my Ma would give me a quarter and it would pay my way into the movies and buy me a box of popcorn, a candy bar, and a drink. Equate that into today's dollars. That's why old silver coins ain't just laying around everywhere

Some guy posted a pic on one of the forums some time ago but can't remember which one. Some are real works of art.

Hey Uncle Willy,

You just reminded me - Years and years ago when I wuz bout 12 or 13 my girlfriend and I would take the old Montgomery Ward heavyweight bike and an empty pop bottle carton and ride to the store a mile or so away. A pop bottle then had a 3 cent return price, so by the time we went the distance, we would usually have found six pop bottles people had thrown out on the road to fill the folding carton. We would get 18 cents return price for them and then either buy one 5 cent pop and two 5 cent candy bars or vice-versa. BTW, she would sit on the seat and I would pedal. Gentlemanly, Huh?

Ah, the good old days!!!!! Girlfriends and not many worries!

Those hobo nickels are fantastic. I would not sell it if I found one. I would pick up pop bottles and take them to the store in my brothers paper bag and on a Monday, you could find enough for a coke and candy bar. Those were the good ol days as far as I am concerned and the girls did not seem so materialistic
as they do now.
