How to avoid false signals

vatos

New member
Hi Guys,

I have the etrac for a month now and really like this detector.
I only have a question about getting false signals.
I use a open pattern with iron mask at 28.

If i get a lot of false signals, what option can be chnaged to avoid them.
I always use auto sensivity at +3.

Look at the sensitivity bar on the right. This is the level that the E-Trac "suggests" you should use for the current ground conditions. You may be getting false signals because you are trying to turn up too much sensitivity for those particular conditions.

More sensitivity = greater depth but weaker target IDs

Less sensitivity = less depth but more reliable target IDs

You have to find the happy medium for your ground conditions. Maybe back down to Auto or Auto + 1 or +2 instead of using Auto +3 all the time.

When I go out in my backyard the suggested sensitivity is only about 16 but some places I go in the country the suggested sensitivity is over 20.

If the suggested sensitivity is already low (below 20), that's probably E-Trac's way of saying "I'm having a hard time looking through this soil" In that case you may not want to try to push it too hard or it will have no choice but to lie to you. :argue: Just my opinion.

I leave quick mask open and if the cursor is in the bottom right area it's iron trash. You can add more discrimination to the screen to eliminate some more of what you call falsing. Your probably experiencing iron "wrap around" and may need to black out the uppermost line almost across the full top 01 line of the screen leaving the last from say 01-40 to 01-50 open for large silver coins. Black out 01-01 to 01-39 across the top of the screen.

You've basically got about 3 options really, 4 if you count just putting up with those.

1. Raise your level of discrimination.
2. Lower your sens. as Joe suggested. Back off to 2,1,-1, -2...etc.
3. Depending on how much iron you're in, Ferrous tones is another option.

I don't know how much falsing your talking about. It has to get pretty bad for me to lower from Auto +3. Normally I just live with it, but it always seems worse in the spring then the summer and fall. Moisture I guess.

I use my mask at the same level, and do get a lot of false signals,But,with discrimination set at 28
It seems that most of the iron signals will give an extremely high tone and read right around 01-50
I have just learned to ignore these and go on,kind of like ignoring the low grunts in TTF.
I choose the lower disc for more depth.
I also run in manual sens usually 29 or 30 maxed out, unless it is extremely noisy.
Also i do get a lot of bad id readings running this high,so i just hit auto sens and see what the reading is telling me it is.

I have read a lot of blacking out say 01-01 to 01-39 , i could give it a try.
Thank you for the answers till now.
I will let you guys now how it turns out for me.

Cheers
