How wide open is your Fe line?

I've never had the pleasure of operating an Se or any other explorer. I was going to get an Se and then the E-trac hit the market. I took a gamble on the latest and greatest and I don't think I made a mistake, I just wish I had that experience as a basis for comparison...

The E-trac touts greater resolution on the screen than the Se, however 90% of targets land on 5% of the screen on the E-trac. Whereas on the Se, targets were more spread out and more distinguishable? Why not go the other way and elaborate the S curve, allowing for increased Target id? They obviously have the ability to change where metal of a certain composition, shape and texture "hits on the screen".

I run a modified coin pattern that will null on nails, but will "pickup" a coin when held together with a nail and passed over the coil. The numbers read 26-44 on a merc.
27-44 on an IH, 26-46 on a silver quarter. with an "open" screen the nail reads no lower than 30 fe any way I scan it. (this could be where the greater resolution comes into play to allow for blending of signals?)

This is somewhat of a controlled test: the nail is touching the coin and scanned "in line" with the middle of the coil (scanned with the nail crossways gets a null)
But it goes to show how objects next to common items such as nails might get disced out with a tighter pattern...I dig very little iron unless there is a coin in the hole with it.

Also, a stack of 4 silver coins together reads 01-47 which I believe the factory coins mode discs out...Tight patterns have their place but note to self (open screen as much as possible on cleaner ground):geek:

To Captn_Se: are you running an E-trac now? I enjoy your videos and would like to see more of them if time and circumstances permit:beers:

No, DirtDean. I haven't been able to detect for over 9 months due to a relapse of a very painful and fatiguing condition. It's getting better, but still not sure when I can resume detecting again. I really miss it. The E-Trac forum is very informative!! I love learning about new machines...I've read the E-Trac manual entirely, and have used one (only for a few minutes...it belonged to a friend of mine) about a year ago. It's hard to get rid of a machine I've been so successful with....right now, if I was able to detect again, I'd be happy swinging any machine....:detecting:

I've always run my E-TRAC in ferrous/2tone with a modified relic pattern so that I hear most of the iron and the non-ferrous signals jump out if I swing over one. However I have been experimenting with conductive sounds/multi-tones. When I use that I also use Andy's suggestion of knocking out everything 28 and above on the ferrous and 01/02 from 27-50 conductive then discing back in 41-42-43 on the 01/02 line. This really does seem to help stop the falsing when I am in conductive sounds. Ferrous/2-tone with the relic pattern does not false, but you do have to stop and look at the numbers. I've found a good many masked targets this way because of the conductive number being so reliable... I am enjoying using the conductive sounds/multi-tones though. I haven't had a chance to get out to any good sites or even bad sites but I did get a few minutes in a small place I have hunted hard and pulled a wheatie out yesterday with the conductive sounds. Now I am going to start trying DEEP=OFF amd FAST=OFF... but I am not sure about the fast=off thing... but i'm going to try it.

I am convinced that running some disc is critical to unmasking targets with the E-TRAC... not too much but some, at least the relic pattern or (Jason's relic pattern).

Thanks everyone for all the great information that is posted on this forum all the time. I have decided it is time for me to thin the herd but the ET will be going nowhere!! I've tried and tried again... and again to like the V3 but with all it's potential I cannot set it up so that it will keep up with the ET... I mean, maybe I could if I knew when to change a bunch of settings for each site, but dang...

In regards to discrimination I think I read that if two targets are under the coil and both are accepted then the largest signal wins. If the larger signal is discriminated, however, and the other target is not, then the E-Trac will attempt to disregard the larger signal and let the smaller, accepted target squeak through instead of nulling. I think this is the definition of see-through. Please let me know if I'm mistaken.

.....if I'm right.....I think the Trash Density setting only effects what the target ID's display and don't effect the audio.
