im from a small town of 900 people, we have a lot of early 1800 houses here. i was given permission to hunt one of these houses, i had many good finds, including cannonball, 1901 barber quarter 1874 ih, 1892 ih 1899 ih 1892 v nickel and a shield nickel and more. I told the owner every thing i found and he didnt ask for anything he congradulated me. The word got around town that i was having sucess, i asked the RICHEST man in town if i could hunt one of his propertys a vacant lot(i was real polite) he said i could but anything i found was his, i told him i didnt mine sharing, i enjoy the hunt. he said no you dont understand its mine. WHAT WOULD YOU DO THANKS BRYAN
 
Bryan, I wouldn't do his yard for anything. Leave him with his buried treasures. Good luck and if he's the richest in town, he might have held on to his coins good and tight. In other words, he might not have anything you would want anyway. HH and good luck, Nancy
 
Legally, he is right Bryan, but morally wrong. I would move on to another property and leave Mr. Rich guy with his buried treasure still in the ground. I bet he is a very lonely person as well with an attitude like that. You should get permission more often than not when you approach the property owners with a smile on your face which leaves you with many places to hunt. You don't always have to hunt just at home either, Nancy and I go to other small towns just to meet people and ask permission to hunt in prospective places. Besides, a lot of these small towns has some of the best bar and grills with great food and a cold brew. :thumbup:

I would still hunt it for just, as you say, the fun, EVEN if there is the risk that I'd have to give up any goodies I find. And actually, you'd be surprised how often someone says that ("I want everything you find"), but when the time comes, really doesn't enforce that. Or when I hand them the stuff, I sometimes hold out one trade token, and say something to the effect, "this is one I don't have in my collection, is it ok for me to keep that one?" and usually they say "sure".

True, maybe this won't happen in your case, and he may truly take every last pulltab and wheatie, but even in that case, it's still worth it for the fun of the hunt. You can take digital pix, and still have bragging rights :)
 
Do his site as long as you can do a wright up with photos. Then go talk to your local News Paper and see if they want the story ;-)

The richest man in town may be keeping his coins buried in the yard and forgot where he buried them that's why he wants ever thing. lol
Good chance eventually when he moves on you'll get to do his yard in the future anyways !

Sounds like the type guy who would find fault with your digging his property too....May want restitution. So if you do. Get a signed agreement..Hate to say this he sounds like a class a Jerk..I would just leave it alone and find happier grounds...
 
I would just move on to the next place.. Even if you gave him EVERYTHING including the trash, I think you would be leaving yourself open to accusation.

Move on, don't do it, not even for the fun of it. The next house you look at hears that you gave everything to the owner and they will want all you find also. Even if he gives permission to keep all you find, sounds like the type of person to change his mind later on. How would you feel if you found something like a 1916 D Mercury dime or even a gold coin and had to give it to him. You wouldn't see a cent of the find. Don't even think about what might be there.
 
No matter where I hunt I have a pouch for my trash. On the side of the trash pouch I have a smaller pouch for my clad. Then I have a pocket.

Bryan, you owe all the praise and finds to yourself by learning your machine. :detecting: You've been doing great and I'm so happy for you that you like your MXT. It is a keeper for sure. HH, Nancy PS: You wouldn't like our town for good food and a cold beer. It use to be a dry town for over 150 yrs and they don't know how to serve a good cold one.
