Hunting trashy area - Etrac in long.

Hi I don't know how many of you hunt in audio response long but you often hear that the Etrac is no good in trashy areas. Well I believe the opposite of this and actually think it is amazing amongst trash. Have a look at a video I have put together and you will see how effective this can be.

Nice videos you have made. I wonder if the long tones will work in two tone ferrous as well? I just tried ttf and it was pretty good. Lots of places I hunt are loaded with iron nails and iron trash. Ill give it a try and let you know how it goes. Idigid

Great tip and videos Marksman7, but unfortunately I have to wait to spring to test it out.

The video's were excellent
I put your site on my favorites
I am going to try long with more effort than my previous attempts

What is the pattern you are using in your video?
Do you use conductive or only TTF with your long setting?
Do you have a video showing your settings finding gold or a nickle?

I believe hearing the sound with nickle/gold would be comforting to me and encourage my use of long
About a month ago I found 3 Gold rings in a month period
It was the first time I ever found Gold and now I want to make sure I can use a program and still find Gold
Thanks

Very well done video! Well explained! Thanks for taking us along and showing us your "down under" methods! This is why I love FULL Digs. I believe you learn more doing FULL digs, and its fun for the audience. What they don't realize is how hard it is not to just dig the target, though.

Very interesting. I'm developing my trash hunting technique as the oldest areas near me are heavy trash and picked over. I've been using normal or smooth but now I'm going to give long a go and see how well it works for me. Thanks for the info!

I use Long all the time in iron without discrimination in TTF, for me its the best, but can admit that most targets can be reached in Normal.

Great videos and website - bookmarked! Thanks for sharing that. I just ordered an E-Trac and being in Europe as well, your "long" recommendation is what I will be running.

I've been worried about learning the E-Tracs sounds (picking out coins) but your video showed, quite clearly, that long helps the coins to stand out. I normally hunt with no discrimination (but have iron quieted via a setting on my current detector - quite like the E-Trac, it nulls over iron) and wondered how I was going to pick out the sounds of the coins, but you helped me there. Still will take some time.

Thanks,
Albert

You did a great job showing the difference between long and normal in the videos! What pattern were you running?

Great post! Thank you Marksman. HH-CC

Hi all thanks for your compliments and questions. My pattern would possibly not suit as I only have it set to OZ coins, although it does pick up others. How I set my pattern up is to get out every coin you want to find and then make a pattern by following the instructions in the E-Trac manual, I actually run each coin under the coil at various depths and spin them every which way as I am doing it. I also pass many of the same type as I believe that not all coins are made equal and can have different compositions of metal. Also make sure you go as far as you can away from the coil as it may make a difference on finding those deeper coins with iffy signals. It took some time but my pattern consisted of over 250 coins passing under the coil. I also run a full wide open pattern when the area allows it, trash, interference etc. I hope this helps.

Mark, what is your tone ID set to?

The reason why I dont use Long is that it blanks at the end, just as Normal does, which means during this period you could miss targets. This is the only reason why I prefer Smooth over Long. It is personal preference and if it works for you, which it obviously does. That is the main thing and that is what counts. Loved the vid, will be watching more when you post it. Keep up the good work and thanks.

Hi all I am sorry but I just noticed that I hadn't put the Variability setting in but I have now edited it. Variability is set as high as you can mine is cranked to 30 but I do suffer with ringing in my ears. You may be able to turn it down a bit but the higher it is the more the silvers and coppers will squeal DIG ME.

Marksman may I ask where do you also set your Threshold Pitch?? Is it at the factory setting of 15?? Not the background threshold hum but the PITCH setting. I also tried bumping that up to 29-30 and wow it pulls upwards all the sounds higher in the octave range made the silver veritably shreak out.

Started hurting my ears so went back to factory 15.

I tried your long out and his smooth but I ended up back at normal as it was best for me. The area was trashy but not extremely so so that may be why.

Do notice an anomoly though by having DEEP ON and FAST ON I was getting better hits on targets no matter what depth. I think it's making the machine's processors response faster as having DEEP ON turns off some filters I think and FAST ON turns off some filters also is what I read either in Andy's book or the Etrac manual. I'll have to go double check. DEEP ON may add filters I can't remember at the moment. BUT I liked having BOTH set to ON and am going to leave it that way. Didn't chop the signal at all like having FAST ON alone by itself does. Worked really well still having the higher conductors shreak out even in NORMAL in sounds.

Check out goes4ever video on his sight comparing deep off/deep on and fast off/fast on
It really is eye opening
Sorry I cant give you the connecting information, I don't know how to do that..yet

I have my threshold pitch up around 28 - 30 but I suffer with ringing in my ears already. Whatever you are comfortable with but I would probably get up around at least 20 and turn your volume down a bit.
