Isn't it amazing we all have coins we would like to find but haven't as of yet, congratulations for taking that off the want list. I haven't dug an Indian Head yet although I have two Large Cents and a Two Cent piece...its amusing sometimes isnt it?

Since I posted my reply on page 1, I have found 10 more IH's this year, the last 2 of which were 1864-65 and are in oustanding condition. It was a shock when I cleaned them to find so much detail. Usually the ones I find are badly corroded and or mineralized. The good looking ones that came out had a CO of 33, each time. The ones that didnt look so great were all over.

What is it they say about real estate???? LOCATION - LOCATION - LOCATION. The same is true with metal detecting. Where I live the very first settlers in the area were in the 1850"s, with no real settlement until the late 1800's. It is a little tougher to find old coins here.

Well since posting this I got my first a 1902 Indian and also another first a 1911-D Barber Dime I posted the video the other day. I guess if we persist things will happen!

Archer,

Thanks for the picture. I'm in the same boat as you. My area wasn't really settled with towns until mid 1880's. However I've found close to 30 IH's. Since they were minted until 1909, and considering the fact they were probably still in people's pockets and being used until at least the 30's. I'd say you've got a very good shot at finding many more. I found 3 in a small yard about 3 weeks ago. This yard probably wasn't 20x20. Pulled up the 3 Ih's and 1 barber dime. House was built in 1904. These were shallow also. Around 4". I think you'll find more...many more!!!

my town wasn't started till 1870's 1880s but the farms in the country date back way farther to 1830s and up...........I stick to old farms 90% of the time. I have 80 indians this year, almost everyone was dug at a farm or a field site where a farm once stood. Most for me come in at 09-36, 10-37

rarely ever 12 on ferrous line but almost always 36, 37 conductive

Thanks for the feed back everyone. Of course, I will keep plugging and I am sure I will find more. I was just surprised how long it took to find my 1st IH.

Good luck and great finds!
