I FINALLY dug the one HIGH $$ Injun that has eluded me ...and L@@K at it...

I am getting "hooked" on Greenies just about as bad as I am on silver:detecting:
I just love listening for that unmistakable sound...'course sometimes it's a little tiny piece of wire:clapping:

It doesn't matter what condition it is in----YOU found it and it is a tough date. Nice going on all those other indian heads too---AND the Barber dimes. Boy o boy you have been finding some nice things over the last couple years. I always love to see your posts and I hope we can hunt together sometime. Thanks for all the information you provide and maybe some time I could tag along and hear what some of that stuff sounds like. Good going and keep them silvers coming.

We all would like to see and hear what Bryce sees and hears. Hey Bryce, know someone who can do videos of you finding those oldie-deepies?

Slip me a pm and let me know 'round abouts where you are located exactly...and we'll see if we can't meet somewhere inbetween one of these days. I was actually not disppointed with the condition of the 1872. Heck I don't sell stuff anyway...and I'm not a collector. I just like finding the stuff...and have since I was a kid back in the 70's. I only "collect" what I find.

Larry...one of these days we'll have to meet up somewhere and do some huntin' together so we can compare signals. That's always a blast...and I always learn new things each time. I've been trying to head your direction for over a year now:rolleyes:...but just haven't gotten it done.
I've just had so much going on for many many months now as you are aware of. Shoot...I've never even gotten to make one of the club hunts yet.
When things slow down for me...and settle down a little...we'll hit some parks:thumbup:

I would like that Bryce. I'll have to take a look at the map and see what looks interesting between us. We had a great club hunt today at that early 1800's site. A beautiful day for it too. I found a 1888 IH, 1903 V Nic and a Gold plated broach. Also found was an1876 Seated quarter, large cent, date unknown until cleaned, 1887 IH......well, you get the idea.

Your really having some great finds this year buddy! Congrats on that 1872 Injun! Nice run on Coins once again and I hope it continues for you. Continued Success, Good Luck and HH Bryce.

has been a hectic up and down period for me...but the detecting aspect of it has been incredible. It's hard to believe a person can actually still find stuff in the same parks as they did back in the 80's...and 90's. I've actually found more stuff...and better stuff the last couple of years than I did before the parks became supposedly "hunted out". Take care buddy.

with an 1888 an 1892 and a 1898. I am getting better hunting with you because we get to hear each others signals. Theres no way I would have dug that 1898 because is sounded bad but you said DIG IT because you thought it was a crummy condition indian head. Well guess what/ it was a crummy corroded indiun head! so I'm glad you heard it and told me to dig.
I cant wait to hunt again and you have really helped me get better with my se. It was cool to watch you pull all those old coins from the ground. There was no way I would have known to dig some of the stuff you did. That barber dime you let me hear sounded bad to me/ but I haven't heard deep targets like that until now. That was fun seeing it come out of the ground. Well I need to get busy here Bryce so have a good one and talk to you later.

Yep we sure had a good time D. I'm glad you got some keepers too and I hope we get to hunt again soon. Those injuns were prety nasty so they were giving me some strange sounds. My 1872 sounded different... but once it came out of the ground and I saw how nasty it was....I knew why...so I figured we'd better dig anything close. Take care bro.

Could someone please tell me what a " Fatty " indian head penny is ? I've not heard of that expression before. Thanks

Sure........Indian head cents minted from 1859 into 1864 were made from 88% copper and 12% nickel and weighed 4.67 gm. Mid-year 1864 they were changed to 95% copper and 5% tin and zinc, commonly known as Bronze, weighing 3.11 gm. Since the diameter stayed the same, 19mm, the copper-nickel were much thicker.......fatter ........."a fatty".

I have been relying on the tones about 75% of the time or more. On most of the coins I've been finding lately...they're deep enough...or with trash...etc...so the cursor becomes pretty much a non factor for me anyway. For me...once the coin reaches the 9" mark to 10" mark...it's tone huntin' or nothin':detecting:
It has also really helped me to find more stuff with the SE. Most of the time now...I don't even glance at the cursor until I have already pretty much made up my mind to dig or not to dig.
By the way...just wanted to let you know that if there wasn't so much personal stuff going on with my family...I would have probably been #1 on the list to attend the hunt you are putting on. I just lost my mom a couple of weeks ago...and now my Dad is not well at all either.I can't get far away from home right now....and haven't been able to for some time.
I got to meet and hunt with Guvner....Mike...Golddigger..and a bunch of others last year at the Forum hunt in St. Louis...and it was the BEST time I've ever had detecting. I learned a lot and more importantly got to meet and hang out with everyone. It was a time I'll never forget. They're a great bunch of guys.
Anyway...thanks for responding...and take care
PS: Good luck with the hunt. I wish I would have been able to register and attend.

I hope all is well with you..and good luck on your next hunt. The goodies are still hidin' there in some sites...but they are getting tougher to find. It seems like we almost have to "trick" them into giving us a signal at some spots:detecting:

me neither Roy. I have not ever found one of the thick nickle induian heads. I do dig a lot of the nicckl hits but it's usually junky stuff.

I decided to give a lawn I'd done a bunch of times before another try but real slow and digging all the iffy iron signals. Got the 1872 indian head in the same hole with a one-piece gilt button and at least one or two nails. Then proceeded to dig about 50 more rusty nails and no more coins trying the same strategy. Did manage one more one piece button though, also in the same hole with a bunch of iron.

No picture for now, but I'll try to take one shortly.
