Went out to an old fair ground today and found 3 V Nickels 1902, 03, 08 and a no date Buffalo. I have been finding old nickels at pounded out sites, no silver. I'm guessing they notched them out and took all the silver. I hunt with no notching or discrimination.

I think you are right on the money Matthew (pun intended) I have nickels notched out most of the time but when hunting old sites, I try to listen for deep nickels, some of them are worth the trouble to dig. Even the ones not worth much, are still fun to find.

Last weekend I found a 1894 in beautiful condition............. The first old nickel I had dug in a loooong time.

Way to go Matt! I really love seeing those older nickels rescued. It sure does sound like someone was out there cherry picking and only went for the silver. It's always exciting to find the old nickels. Congratulations! HH, Nancy
