I have 2 questions. More like a poll.

First, how many of you run with deep and fast off ?
Second, how many of you run auto Sens. ?
I am very interested in knowing.
One question has nothing to do with the other.

I hunt trash sites so I run fast on if I was at a site with little or no trash run deep on.and run auto sens 32.

Well, Bob...

Most of the time, I have kept deep on and fast off. However, and this might be my imagination, I've noticed that the recovery time to threshold after a target is detected, seems to be slightly faster when I set both fast and deep off. From the description in the manual, it seems to me that deep on is very similar to the gain control...working on enhancing deep targets to make them sound louder. So, I feel if I run the gain at 8, I shouldn't be missing any really deep targets. I noticed that switching back and forth from deep on to off after identifying a target doesn't seem to lose any depth. The deep targets still come through about the same.
So, from now on, its both deep and fast off, unless I'm in a relatively clean area that I think still hold some very deep ones.

Sensitivity: Although the auto setting makes for some really stable detecting, I try to use the highest MANUAL setting I can without causing a lot of falsing. I've switched back and forth (again, after finding a deep target) and many times, the signal is much fainter when auto sens is selected. So, manual sens for me, at the highest setting I can, without causing total instability.

Run fast on and deep off and run auto sens. at 22 or 24 most of the time. Personally I think I can tell some difference in the sens being on auto not as effective in depth as manual but on the fast on or off and the depth on or off I cant tell from my small amount of testing if there is any difference in either set up.?
Thanks for the pop quiz let us know the results.

Usually fast on deep off. Most of the sites I hunt are pretty trashy.manual 19-24.
Seems like running 19 sens I still get about the same depth as I do when running say 24 but w/ less iron falsing.

Bob,
Generally I have deep off, and fast off ~ fast on if I'm in an area with lots of iron trash __ old ruin or house site.

I mostly run manual sensitivity @ about 22 + if possible.
If I experience any interference (threshold wobbly) or erratic operation then I lower sensitivity down until things calm down.

I've been doing some follow up and rereading the manual. Which I recommend everyone do every so often. I have decided to run deep and fast off and enjoy better target ID.
Just curious if anyone else is in tune with this.

When conditions allow, I would try running deep and fast off for better target ID.
As for manual V auto Sens. ? That one is still up in the air. The manual even has trouble with that one.
Guess I'll continue to run Manual Sens.

I run both off, unless I am in a very trashy area. Then I have fast on. 200 year old targets don't seem to get deeper than 6-7 inches in this NJ clay so deep on probably does nothing for me. My experience is that auto sens at around 22 caused the Explorer to miss targets that the X terra 70 or XLT found later at the 2-3 inch depth. For that reason I use manual at 18-22 which seems to find about anything thats down there.

If you interpret the manual the way it reads. Fast and deep off gives better TID. With little or no loss of depth. By depth I mean audible target signal. Your machine may see items deeper than you can audibly detect them. This can be true no matter what your settings are.

I have been running this way because of all the online advice. I have not had my SE long enough to learn what is best for me. After reading this I think I will fall back to fast off/deep off and stay is manual sens.

Thanks for this.
