Hello

I just got home from work to day and was told that my local town past a law for out of town residents to pay a fee to use their park. :very angry: :ranting:
I was so mad to hear this news. Is their any one els on this forum that has the same thing in there local town to?

Priscilla

Well P we have one local town who says unless you live in the community, or are with a resident, you can't even go to their park.
Yet it's a wide open not posted city park...Though they do not charge for the park usage.they limit who can use it... hmmmmmmmm

No about parks Priscilla but what kills me is the state of Maine has beaches that have residents purchase a permit and stick it in on the windshield and park convieniently close to beach and then out of towners got to pay $10 to park in a place thats further away and some just have those pesky meters everywhere......then if you visit a beach and am not aware about residence only parking you get big fine....oh ya!.....all those stinking Lincolns will pay for that...not!....I am sorry but in my opinion if I got to pay to enjoy nature then there is something very wrong with this world!!!!!!Money hungry SOB's!!!!!!!!......What they need to do is stop thinking how can we make more money off these stupid people and start thinking HOW can we cut back on un necessary spending!.....thanks for the ear.....I feel a little better............:smoke:

Pricilla, maybe as a taxpayer you should ask your town council why the citizens weren't included in on their decision.Any park in the US that accepts federal funds can't bar citizens out of any city park.I'm sure the federal government would be interested.

We have some pay to enter parks if driving in with a vehicle. They don't care if it's a local or out of town.
If nobody is in the toll booth to take the money, they expect you to stop and fill out a little pay stub, put it and the fee in a provided envelope and drop it in a steel collection box. A tear-off number is to be displayed on the dash that matches the number on the envelope. Then they drive in the parks frequently checking the vehicles. Those who didn't stop and pay get a ticket which cost more than the park entrance fee. They get folks all the time. The only exception are ones who pay an annual fee and have a sticker on the windshield.
Then if I go to the city just East of me, one must have detecting permit. If any type of construction is in progress, even if the construction workers have a day off, all detecting in the entire park or whatever is off limits during all construction phases.
Don't mater what type of construction big or small - no detecting :sadwalk:

They run random checks on your license plate..if it's out of town listing they check and see if you just moved, if you didn't they advise you and move you on... Their not jerks about it.
In fact just the opposite..But you still have to leave.

all your finds that you got with it. LOL

If it's YOUR town that passed a law to charge outsiders for use of the park, why does it make you mad? I mean, you're not an outsider, right?

I experienced mattockman's Maine beach thing as a visitor there, once.

The local city park dont charge for the play area, but charges $1 per person to jump in the pool.Spectators dont pay, like a parent watch thier child. They also have a life guard thats what you pay for.

$50 to rent building for 3 hours w/ $25 returned if cleaned up.Non city residents $75 w/ $25 returned if cleaned up.

Back to question,
I was gonna say its fair, specially for small city parks. But then again if I go out out town and have to pay, thats another story.

as far as the beach thing is concerned, i felt the pain the first time i went there to use my MD. cost me $10 to park or feed the meter and run the risk of forgetting to do it. i could just see it now " hey look at that guy with the metal detector running towards that car getting ticketed:ban:, is that pull tabs spilling out of his pockets??" :pulltab:

some of the parks here charge to get in too, sometimes only on the weekends. and it seems no matter where you go you surrounded by people, rude, ignorant ones at that. it can get real expensive fast here in south florida on both the wallet and the nerves. :ranting:

Your post was funny because I was doing the same thing a few weeks ago on the beach! Parking costs are riduclous along the beaches here in south Florida, a quarter for ten minutes is crazy but there we are, paying it to grab as many pull tabs as possible! I found myself looking at my cell phone, watching the time constantly. I went early early morning before people arrived and also, look for the tide info on Hillsboro Inlet-it helps to know if it'll be low tide or high tide. I go early to anyplace I want to detect.

yea, im saving up to buy an excal. i dont know what would be more expensive- the unit itself:minelab: or the parking costs:surprised: for all the times i'll be out there swinging away!!!:detecting: looks like all the gold would be spent before i even find it! either that or the price of pulltabs better skyrocket!:pulltab: LOL

HI
wow! I didn't no that they charge you? well they have to make the money some how. But alot of people are not happy about this charging thing. coi2

YES, Let me explain. I live in warren county NJ. My township is Knowlton. And the town next to me is blairstown. Both township are bickering About charging for the uses of their parks, and fields, for sports acktivets. Blairstown came up with the ideal. They don't like it now that we yous there parks and fields,do to issue on cleaning up, and lawn work. coin2
