I made a holster for my Sunray X1

I saw a post where a guy made a holster for his X1, I thought it was a great idea !
And I made one for myself.

Thought I'd share what I did.:)

# I have also attached a piece of elastic to my X1 to give me a momentary pinpoint switch.

To make the holster tube I used some 1 3/8" dia plastic PVC tubing...
Using an electric heat gun I heated the last 3/4" or so of the tube, by sitting the heat gun on the bench.
Then bringing the tube to the heat gun with the end to be heated uppermost, so you don't have the hot air
coming back up the tubing at you.
I heated the tube until is softened, before I did the heating I had an ex military trenching shovel that had a
wooden handle with a ball on the end of the handle about the size of a billiard ball.
When the tube was soft I pushed it ( while rotating it ) onto the ball end of the shovel handle.
This created the flared end, I cut the holster leather body from an old leather apron.
It is soft leather just under 1/8" thick, a 3/4" dia. hole was punched out to take the tubing, it works fine!

Here's a pic of my elastic powered momentary switch mod.

Wouldnt it put strain on the lead connections, you would have to be careful it doesnt snag on things especially in the woods. What I reckon the Sunray needs is a time switch.I dont know how many times I have forgotten to turn the switch back to coil and walked swinging away not realising I wasnt detecting the ground I was detecting whats in my pocket. A time switch could flick it back to coil after about a minute or so.Seeya Neilo

G'day Neilo, yeah I see your point...
I guess I'll have to watch that !!!

What advantage do you find in useing an inline probe with the E trac? I thought they pinpointed better than the older explorer and was hoping to avoid an inline. Is it that you are not able to pinpoint well with the E trac or just find it easer or faster to pin point once then kneel and dig with the use of the probe?

I find that using a probe of any sort is just so accurate.
Especially useful if you are trying to avoid too much digging in park lawns.

The inline probe I use with my Etrac ( X1 Sunray ) is even more useful, because it gives target ID
while telling me where the target is...

In soft moist turf I like to use a brass probe too, __ I like to know exactly where my coin is if I can.

I find pinpointing with Explorers/Etracs pretty good, I've been using wide scan/DD coils for years.

A separate pin pointer really makes pinpointing that much more precise... :smoke:
