Good job Mel...I have one here that needs the repair.
I'm not sure if I want to go deeper but I like your idea better...

screwing things up. The form is not put on with epoxy but a solution on MEK and old coil covers dissolved in a Nalgene bottle and then applied with a syringe. The bonding is much better than using epoxy because it's the same material as the coil.

Nice job. Thanks for sharing

That is cool and very nice work!

I remember MEK, in the military we use it to thin the epoxys, enamels, and lacquers out..I'm guessing but it must eat into the original coil cover for a better bond?

I have been sealing coils this way for years it's very similiar to the way it's done at the factory. I have bottles of white, black, Tesoro brown and Teknetics blue. It really works great on repairing coils.

You know Mel some folks are just too darn smart. Fantastic work.

GOOD information, on the formulation of your home made adhesive.

Yeah,

It's been some time since I posted. You are right about that. There are a couple of igo maniacs here that always had some unkind word to say so I stayed away. All I ever tried to do was to help you guys out as I'm a long time sovereign user and thought I could positively add to the conversation but got turned off from the constant influx of negativity. So I left for awhile.

I have been building my own coils a long time and have been using MEK for bonding . Really works well. What I did was to carefully cut the connector off even with the top of the coil. Cut the 4 wires so that only a 1/4 inch was left and splayed them out flat 90 degrees from one another. Soldered up a new cable. Then made a ring from some plastic I use to form coil shells and bonded it with my MEK slurry to the existing raised coil connection part of the coil. At that point I filled it with epoxy and slid a new cable connector down into the epoxy. Once set it's as good as new.

As far as the MEK is concerned, I can't find it anymore. Only MEK substitute which works but not as well. Thinking it must be outlawed here in NY.

found some at the ACE Hardware store and bought a gallon. Seems the pot heads are using it to make Meth or something like it.
