I visited a Cemetery today

up here, way out in the sticks. I found it last year chasing down a Geocashe. I like looking at the head stones and some in this cemetery really brought home how tough people had it in the late 1800's. I looked around and there were many graves of little kids that didn't make it to their second year. Rather sad...

I often visit my brothers site, while the parents meditate a little, I walk around and see how old the dates get, and they do get very old like early 1800's.. but can only look a short time gets a little sad after awhile.. oj

There is a lesson there for us all...........we humans are survivors in spite of such horror!!

I can distinctly remember when I was a LOT younger, going to the cemetery in Cumberland. I have written before of my adventures in the mines there... but when we went to the cemetery and looked at the headstones, it would almost make you weep. The ages of some of the people who died in the mines is disturbing. I saw some children who were only 15-16 years old who were killed in the mines. And the companies did not even compensate the families for their loss... at least not in any meaningful way.

The stories that could be told and the lives wasted in chase of the dollar... poignant and wrenching

A lot of the gravestones there are for sailors that were just boys. Even the convicts cemetary has many headstones for adolescents who were sent to hard labour in Bermuda for stealing a loaf of bread because they were hungry. Times have changed.
