In mid priced detectors.... $500.00 to $800.00 ........ what is your favourite smooth running Target ID detector for hunting jewelry in park/ballfield situations? I know there are lots of opinions........so give me yours....there is no wrong answer here.Just suggest your favourite model and why. Thought I'd get a few opinions before I pull the trigger on another detector. Thanks for your replies.

Fisher F19.Lightweight(2.5 lbs),on the go discrimination adjustment,very accurate target id,notch discrimination,adjustable tone break,backlight.Great all around detector(and I've owned several,even some costing twice as much).David

Okay, I'm going to answer a question with a question,
If you are primarily hunting jewelry why a metered detector?
I mean jewelry can be all over the ID range, all metered detectors I've seen reference coins because they fall into pretty tight groups.

For jewelry and if I hadn't lost my job of 35 years (needed the money) I would have kept my Tejon.

I like the Racer 1

I only have an opinion on one because that is all I have ever used.
Fisher F70.
Super deep if necessary, very sensitive to targets of any size, works great in heavy iron or heavy trash.
Does everything I have ever asked it to do at all sites and not counting the clad paid for itself in jewelry finds in a very short time.

In reply to MarkCZ.......... I owned 3 non metered detectors....over the space of 4 years,,,,,, never found a single piece of gold jewelry or a single gold ring!!! Then I went to metered units and somehow got the hang if it...after reading the book by Robert C. Bbrockett " Taking a closer look at Metal Detector Discrimination". Which is worth it's weight in gold, and very clearly teaches you all about target id meters, I then concentrated on a few very narrow specific "ranges" ignored all the non gold items, or as I called them " noise" ........and proceeded to find 23 gold rings in the following 2 years. Mostly found in parks and playfields. I have no use for a non metered detector in my style of hunting.

Since you already got the method down any of them will work...but take it to the next level with a Whites V3 or V3i. You can find used ones in your price range.

Lots of ways to deal with the "noise" of the unwanted targets plus the added benefit of enhanced discrimination abilities.

Hope you don't live near me. I don't want the competition...:)

The best jewelry detector I have ever used was the White's DFX. I have since moved up to the V3i which is a close second. Most of these finds was with the DFX.

I've had limited experience with different types of metal detectors, so my own opinion is just from the few detectors that I've used. The f5 that I've had for over two years now is one fine detector, depth is good target separation good, durability outstanding and battery life is unbelievable. This is one of the best detectors for the money, all the bugs are worked out and it is ready to go.

Teknetics T2. Price is a steal and the frequency is great for gold jewellery but it is also no slouch on coins. I've ran an Etrac for four years and this past yeast with the T2 I've gotten my oldest Copper and silver coins. Also dug two pieces of gold in a couple months. Depth is great and target separation in trash is on par with most of the newest greats. VDI gets jumpy after 6-7 inches in coin sized objects but when your looking for just non ferrous it doesn't really matter. 2+ tones is the way to go. I'd also like to point out I've ran the Deus, AT Pro, Etrac, F2, and omega 8500 and just in 3 months I've had the T2 I can say it's my favorite "all around" detector for the money. I've found a great variety of things with it and it always surprises me which is fun. Good luck on your decision, I'm sure you'll get something that makes you happy. Hh

I like the tesoro line fore jewelry aswell. The whole line does a bang up job. I liked the Outlaw one of my favorites.

I'm with Larry on this one. Used a DFX for years and then moved to the V3i. After 7 years with the V3i, I went back to the DFX and don't regret it in the least. The DFX is in your budget.

My vote would also go for the DFX,mine is a 2001 vintage and still going strong with 1000s of hours on the clock, its just a really nice machine to use,for some reason it loves gold.

The best detector out there is ------- the one you use and put many hours on to understand what it is saying to you, when this is done you will find gold, silver and treasure . Most people including my self have made a decision about a detector too soon saying this one is not that good, keep learning and it will be your favorite!!
