In praise of older women. . .

FINALLY got out again. . .it's been months! And I met up with 3 different incarnations of the goddess Liberty! She's lovely as ever to see comin' out of the ground!

I haven't been able to get out much at all lately, although the weather's been mild. But I had some pretty good luck today in a park I got skunked in a few years ago when I went there with Golddigger. It happened so long ago, I forgot I had been there before until I saw the place. I took my time and hunted slowly for about 3 hours, and managed to find a few goodies. I had not found a barber coin since last October, and hadn't found a seated since July of '07! :surprised: I've managed to find a few good coins, but the seated and barbers have been hiding from me pretty well.

The ground was perfect today at the park I went to,and after digging lots of trash and clad, the first silver I found was the barber. I couldn't read a date on it, but I was just ecstatic to pull a barber out of the ground for the first time in almost a year. I thought it was longer than that, but looking at my records, I can see I snagged one less than a year ago, but only barely. Two feet away from the barber, the merc popped out of the ground, and then things got quiet for a while, just digging wheaties and a couple of indians. After about 45 minutes of that, I got another signal that was deep and looked like a wheatie. I wasn't really expecting silver, and it was great to see the rim sticking out of the clump I pulled out of the hole. I could see the back pretty well and I could tell it was at least a barber, but the dirt clung to the front. I moved just enough of the dirt to see a part of the 7 in the date, and I could tell it was seated from the style of the number. It felt really good after such a long drought, to find a seated coin again! :bouncy:

Well, here are the pics - I was really stoked when I got home and realized that the barber is a semi-key 1903 S! Too bad it's not in better shape but I'll take it!

Good hunting,

Mark

Heck, I'd been happy with just a merc or IH, even a few wheat's alone - but both a seated and barber on top of all that and semi key date = Very Nice

When you have gone for a while and not found a certain type of
silver coin....and then you find one or two of them...... it's kinda like
taking a breath of fresh air after a rain storm. Congratulations Mark
on finding the silvers that have hidden from you for a while.
Gold Nuggets :wiggle:

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm still on cloud nine, carrying these coins in my pocket in a mylar flip so I can haul 'em out and look at 'em every so often. Yeah, I know I've got issues. . .

Them Seated are really nice to find since it seems there is more Barbers than Seated.....at least in my area. Congrats on that Seated and the 03-s Barber Dime! That's one that will put a smile on your face! Continued Success, Good Luck and HH to you on your next outing.:detecting:

This weekend looks perfect, but I'm heading off on vacation for two weeks, so I'll miss the window. Hopefully, you vacuum cleaners out there will leave a silver or two in the ground for me somewhere . . .if I can find it!

Good hunting,

Mark
