It's goldish and heavy????

I found this at an area where there was once an old Catholic Church. It rang up very sweet, thought it was something a little larger. Found it very deep, about 8-10 inches. It is very heavy, looks like it fit on the end of a walking cane or the end of some sort of shaft. Anybody seen anything like this? Thanks for any help.

Candleholder?

n/t

it could have been a part of a candle snuffer.......NGE

I would lean toward the candle holder idea. It could also be part of a statue that was either kept out side or a marble one that was kept in side. It might be the part that was on the head of a statue that represented the HOLY GHOST/spirit in the catholic church before Vatican II COUNCIL had the churches modernize and renovate the inside of the churches. Did this item have a hole on the bottom? Was there any wax reside inside the cup area? Have you tried testing to see if it was gold? It could be gold platted or just gold leafed? I worked for a church restoration company repairing stained glass windows, so i got to see alot of old items like this before, that had been put away in church basements.

I can't tell from your picture whether it has a hole in it or not, but if it does, it could be bronze ornamental piece for a lamp or light fixture of some sort. That's what it looks like to me. Good luck! Robert
