I've been thinking....scary....

It seems there is considerably more silver coins lost over the years up north than down here in the south. Two weeks ago we had a good 8" of snow and it stayed around for a couple of days only.:clapping:Well here's my assessment. With the ice and snow was here for only a couple of days when it melted, at three places I traveled to just after it was gone there were coins on top of the ground and asphalt/concrete. They had apparently been dropped in the snow and were not picked up. I picked up a handful of clad on my 3 stops. Makes me wonder if with large amounts of snowfall every year like up north gets that coins over the decades even centuries have been lost in the snow only to get covered by mud when the thaw comes and they become targets for the MD'ers up there in later years. Sounds like a good reason to me, what do you think?

I think you're right. When I last went hunting during a rare January thaw I found coins right on top of the ground. I think someone lost them when there was snow on the ground. So, yeah, snow causes a lot of dropped coins to be lost.

I think Guvner has found all the coins lost down south.....

yeah true, also down south they can hunt pretty much all year long, up here where the stupid ground is still frozen, we dont have that luxury, man i got my brand new E-Trac and cant evern use it.......:veryangry:

I'll let the cat out of the bag. I may get in trouble from all the rest of the "Northern" detectors though...but here goes. Everyone up here has swore, in blood, on the detector manual that we HAVE TO PUT OUR FINDS BACK WHERE WE FOUND THEM!!!! There its out. If you find a Merc, Barber, or wheat cent you look at it collect a pic or video and put it back into the hole. Those that are caught disobeying are beat mercilessly with their coil cord!! Its just our little way of "preserving" history. Same thing happens if you do not keep a Zincoln though...:punch:

And oddly enough the people who don't have cameras are the ones you consistantly find gold coins and silver dollars......?

NebTrac

Well, we mays as well start keeping all the finds now! All the southern people will come up here and take them all home with them.

I heard once,e when the ground freezes it tends to push coins closer to the surface. This helps keep the silver in reach also.

Well, I live in South, GA. and I have come to the conclusion that everybody around here was so poor back then that they didn't have any coins to lose, or they spent it all on beer and the only thing they lost were the %$&# pull tabs!

That is probably the truth right there. But with the E Trac you can just about decide whether to dig that pull tab or not and dig very few.....Where you live in S Ga.? I'm from just above Augusta in Martinez.
