Just broke my oldest Injun record.............

went back to a house yard I hunted this spring with my Fisher Coin$trike in which I found quite a few Indian cents and wheaties --- I thought this would be a good test for my new E-trac to see if it could pull a few more coins out of this yard! Got a 1944 Merc, a dateless Buffalo Nickel with a D mintmark, a 1948-S Wheatie, and a nice 1859 Indian Cent which broke my previous record for oldest Indian Cent, which was an 1864. By the way, the 1859 came in at 12 - 23.

I really like the E-trac!!! HH - Hawkeye Jim.

Congratulations! That's a nice looking Indian! Always fun to pull something that old out of the ground. Thanks for the pictures and story.

Nice Fatty! I am sitting at your old record of 1864 for oldest injun. I have to admit though I didnt really find it...I was hunting an old park area that was being trenched for new sprinklers and one of the workers that was watching me hunt it for 3 days was standing by me while I was digging a target. I pushed the soft dirt with my foot and he saw it fall onto the sidewalk and grabed it while I was still trying to find the target. In a nice funny way he gave it to me...luckily. Anyway I hope to break that record and yours one day. Thanks for uppin the ante!

An 1874 Indian was my first old coin that I found detecting. I remember being so psyched. it was a nice green one, and one of the better ones I have ever found. They are one of my favorite coins. Congrats on your new oldest. HH, Dan

Very nice IH! Congratulations on the "new" old!!!! Thanks for the pictures too.

Next step back in time will be that illusive Flying Eagle! Maybe next time I'm in the area, we'll team up and find a couple of them! :beers: HH Randy

Sounds like a plan................a Flying Eagle cent would be GREAT find also, with basically just the 1857 and 1858 being minted for circulation, a 1856 would really be a feat of big proportions.......................Jim.

Nice job, Jim. Man, that's an old Indian.

Most fat IH (and the Flying Eagles, large cents) around here are all pitted and corroded, many with no readable date.

Last two fat IH I dug were also in the 23-25 CO range. Flying Eagles are also in that range.

What is nice is that most folks pass those signals up because of the trash that is typically coming in at that same range!
