I have had this happen several times in parks.
How many of you have been hunting and had a kid or several kids following you to see what you find and asking all kinds of questions.

I felt like a duck with a bunch of babies following.

Me and Ray were hunting a park and Ray had two followers! LOL
He told them i was finding better stuff than he was! LOL
What are friends for.
I owe you one Ray!

That was very clever Ray!!

I go hunting often with my husband
he is 6 feet tall and I am close to 5 feet tall
I'm not sure if that effects being appoached but I believe it does
when we are in a public area it is always me that is approached by children and adults
he does not look mean but may give a vibe as unapproachable
I suppose I'm not threatening and so may be friendly and receptive to questions
I try to respond in a friendly manner and get back to detecting as soon as able without appearing rude
the questions are always....

What are you looking for?
What is the best thing you've ever found?
Do you find gold?

My wife and I were hunting a small lake here in Iowa and there were several kids on the beach.Well there was one 7-8 yr old going back and forth between us and she was full of questions.all the usual ones but she finally got around to asking why my detector was different than my wifes. So I said it was a new one and I was trying to learn how to use it and my wifes was my old one.ZOOM straight back to my wife. When we got done she had to tell me that the little girl,Informed Her (in a whisper)That I had given her(my wife) The ICKY ONE to use and that was not right at all.Boy leave it to a child to nail My hide to the barn door. :surprised: Grumpy

almost always fun to have kids around, ive only had one bad experience, some kids were interested in watching me dig, a silver dime popped loose, kid grabbed it in a flash and ran away. little thief.

Never ever!!!! Ever ever ever!! Tell a group of kids that you just dug up a matchbox toy car! 2 hours of constant heads in the way, wanting to dig, wanting to use the sharp digger! 2 hours of no no no, don't touch that, no no no.

Several times I have been approached by adults out of my peripheral view at at a distance while digging a hole.

If I don't feel comfortable I just pull my 8" blade out of the hole and start wiping off the dirt with my other hand making sure it is in plain view and catching lots of sun light off the edges.

I have yet to have someone walk up on me using that technique. They usually change directions and keep on moving.

I find kids following me around highly irritating, they ask a million questions drives me nuts! I am trying hard to concentrate and listen to signals with them pesky kids bugging me, today I was out a house and 5 kids from next door started following me everywhere I went, I would dig a plug get the object then close up the plug, step on it and walk away, the kids would kneel down and re open the hole and leave it open, I was getting very frustrated and told then once I close the hole there was nothing in there and to please quit doing it. Of course they were brats and kept doing it, so I packed up and left. They were worse than having a dog dig up my plugs! I love kids but not brats!!!

Those little buggars!!!!------Reminds me of when we were "working our heads off" cutting plugs & planting Soysa grass (plugs) in a BIG area.-----Guess what the Robins did coming behind us later that evening & early the next morning!!----Pretty much "wiped us out" :rage: -------They were yanking up every one of those plugs they possibly could--looking for worms I guess.----Didn't even occur to us that might happen!-----------Del
