Hello Everyone
Very Excited!
We go out every evening when weather permits for several hours
Since we live in WNY the weather can be a deal breaker and I feel compelled to go out there when I can
This evening we started at a local H.S. that was not that old but we saw the grounds person so we moved on
I hesitate saying it but we only had about an hour to go till dark and we went to a large local park near by
We live in a very historical area with more 1812 than Civil war and have documented settlers from 1600's and 1700's within driving range
We ended up with just over a dozen coins and three appeared to be wheat's, the two wheat's were 1935 and 1953
The other day at same park i found a 1964 silver Rosy but am saving silver and finds photo's for end of month
But, when looking over coins and putting them to soak I saw a wreath surrounding New York, HUH!
The other side was not as clear but I could see stars around a side silhouette, WOW getting excited
Long story short, sort of, It is a 1863 Civil War New York Token!!

The token is now in olive oil and I will provide pictures soon

I would have waited for picture but it was just SO EXCITING!!!

Thank You for looking( even without a picture )

I Luv surprises:happy:

Well congratulations. I'm looking forward to the pictures. Thanks for the story.

Fantastic love those tokens! I found your token in the Rulau book listed as Patriotic Die number 442 it is listed as R-2 rarity with R-1 the most common up to R9 being an unique example. Nice find though!

That is a great find, congratulations on recovering a wonderful piece of history. -- Randy

Hello,
I'm just up dating on my find of the 1863 New York Civil War Token

I belong to a local coin club and we meet monthly
There is a finds board with several categories, including relics
The finds are voted upon and the winners win a silver coin for the best in their category

I submitted the token for the relic category which should be an item that is over 100 years old

I lost to a musket ball:blink:

DUH

(Do I sound bitter?!)

Well there is no accounting for taste as the old lady said as she kissed the cow! Well I don't know about the voters but I bet there is a million musket balls or more out there but not so many of those tokens being dug I would rather have the token than a musket ball.

That's a great looking Token - congrat's !
