"Killer" machine!

D&P-OR

Well-known member
I think the all time PERFECT coin killer machine (at least at this point in time) would be a "lightened up" (lighter weight) Etrac.-----What do you guys think?---Could it be done & still retain the great performance it now provides?-----It's something we have been asking for since the beginning of the Explorer series & (of course), it hasn't happened yet.---Any thoughts in this regard?-----------Del

Well, most of the weight is in the coil, the machine itself is actually pretty lightweight. I'm sure it could be done, but is probably cost prohibitive, or someone would have already done it.

Actually, the 11" Pro stock coil is only 19 0z. (with coil cover) according to my two scales.----The 15 degree change in the grip from the prior Explorers did help some (with the balance).-----You may well be right on the cost--but, on the other hand---I'm sure there are many of us that would be willing to pay more for a lighter weight, fully functional "Etrac 2" (or whatever they wished to call it).---I might ad--if not lighter weight, then better balance (or both).---Thanks for your response.----------Del

I am with you del bring on a lighter weight E track 2 I am buying

Thanks for your responses guys.----I'm not expecting everyone to agree with me on this & that's fine.----I appreciate & respect your opinions (whether they be "yea or nay") :)------I think Minelab (at least to a degree) listens to us, the users.-----To re-phrase basically the same question-----What do you guys think---Assuming the same performance level--do we need a lighter (and/or) better balanced Etrac---or---are we OK just the way we are? (with the existing Etrac)--------I hope we get some more responses from you Etrac users & remember---Minelab may be listening & willing to make any (reasonable) change(s).-----------Del

Why not have a small 1" by 1" screen tucked away like a traffic light just above the grip.
Entire screen changes from black to blue, green, red, yellow when a non discriminated target gets signalled, brightness is connected to target strength.
A high end phone vibrator is built into the handgrip, combining target strength to vibration frequency.

3 raised buttons under that screen, Menu, Left, Right
1 pinpoint trigger on the other side of the grip, triggerfinger.

Batteries, along with detector circuits, located under you elbow in a pod.

WM10 control unit from the CTX is elaborated to CTX screen size and acts as a wireless programming unit for the detector.

Lightweight why not!

It would take New designs that Minelab would have to work out.. With Processors all things are almost possible !!!

I just think their locked into the "it's made this way", and everyone instantly recognizes their machines now ...........

Brand Recognition Thing.

How about a Titanium...E-trac.....or a Gravity displacement button .....or a hovercraft coil !!!.............Now those would be some cool things!!!!!!!!!!

Balance your own "E" with a common house brick. If you can find some of the older "solid" red-orange bricks, get one of those and cable tie it under the battery pack, they make for excellent stands also. Or buy one of those " Swingy Thingy's".........nge

Having used many different companies metal detectors over the years, and having a bad shoulder, the results that the E-Trac gives are well worth the weight. It seems that the key to the E-Trac, using the different programs, requires a slow swing making the current weight a small factor. I found that making sure that the extension of the lower shaft is important to the balance. I would hate to give up the quality of the E-Trac to get rid of a few oz. of weight. Just the other side of the discussion. :detecting:

Tie a bunch of helium balloons to the coil and swing away! You'd for sure be a hit at the local park with that get up!
Mud

I can deal with the weight of the E-Trac - as long as I'm using a smaller or stock weight coil - love my 10 x 12 SEF - but unless I use a Sling - it really gets to my shoulder after a few hours!
Also, as someone else posted last year ... how about an E-Trac with a "No Glare Screen" and "Auto + 5 Sens. " !

Love my etrac! Light would be great but more important is that I want to find old coins in deeeeeeep! Reading digtial numbers for depth would be great! I know half down is 6 inch but reading number would be easier!

There is about 3 pounds of plastic in the control box and the upper shaft that houses the battery. The control box itself is antiquated, with a bulky LCD display, bulky circuit boards, and a CPU that was state of the art 10 years ago for some other use.

That said. They tried to make a new and improved E-trac, and it lost the charming warble sound when it finds silver and Minelab's new policy of encrypting the signals between the coil and control box has backfired and made coil flexibility and lack of a Sunray probe MAJOR drawbacks. This leaves the E-trac as the only choice if you want to know when it is silver, use a Sunray probe, and a 8x6 coil! and the CTX the only choice if you want a FBS water machine with Smartfind.

The E-Trac aint called the silver sucker for nuthing! lol

Customers laugh when I tell them that then after they get one they call me back and tell me... you were SOOOOO right! lol

Here's the reality....
Minelab is over the Etrac.
I have talked to several dealers who have said that the ctx 3030 is what minelab is pushing now.
It really was intended to take the place of the Etrac and quite possibly led to the end of the sovereign.
Everyone wanted a better balanced Etrac with a better screen, faster recovery, and oh yeah everybody wanted it
to be water proof.....so here you have it, the ctx3030.
Its all about the $. The sovereign was by far the best selling machine for hobbiest but was under priced, and lacked the tech
gadgets that sold detectors. It also ran on oblolute anologe technology that is more expensive to manufacture than digital machines.
The Etrac was extremely popular and productive, but had been on the market since 2008....a dinasour in tech world standards.
Minelab has gold detectors selling for $5000, and why the
