I have detected for 37 or 38 years and had so many detector I quit counting. I have sworn that the ones I still have are the cream of the crop but--- am looking for some in put. I have had many good spots in the past which I and my brother have hunted over and over the past 15 years and occasionally still make some good finds. From what I read on your forum it might be worth the investment to once again learn a new machine. What are the feelings of you Etrac owners?? Should I eliminate my herd and start over? Oh, by the way the XL Pro will never leave me.
It is a pretty large investment and I would defiantly need to get rid of my Silver Sabre, Musky Advantage , and my new Xterra 705 to be able to afford it. Do you feel it would be the thing to do? HELP
Would appreciate all honest input!!

Hi Bill,

I have had my E-Trac for three months now, and I would not be without it. I know I still have a lot to learn, but it is a fantastic machine. It has found many coins that I have overlooked before with other detectors. I recommend it!

If you are a coinshooter, I recommend it. If you are a relic kind of guy, the Explorer is probably a better choice (And used Explorers are a bargain right now). Here's my silver finds for the past 3 months with the Explorer and mostly the E-Trac from parks and schools I have hunted before..

E-Trac................This Minelab is simple to set up, and dependably deep in 99% of the places.

On the wet sand........................simply the best.


Only one thing I'm not sure of.........Will you match its capabilities.......?

Why do you differentiate between your Etrac's obvious excellent silver/coinage capabilities, and the same machine's prowess on relic artefacts???

You must have some specific reason for such a definitive statement

What does the old Explorer do, that cannot be matched by the E-Trac....???????????

I don't have the opp to hunt wet sand mostly Old coins in parks and old farm sites. Do have a few old Fair grounds that have produced in the past.
As far as matching it's capabilities only time could tell I guess. I have used many a detectors in my past based on others recommendations only to sell them as not what I was looking for.

I gave up and sold my F-75 and Tesoro Tiger Shark for the Etrac. Best move i ever made bar none. I have a rather large beach that is part of the park i hunt and wanted something that can do both.

I have been in this hobby for 41 years. I started with a Metrotec 220-A and know have an E-Trac. I have found more old coins and relics with this new machine than any other machines I have used in the past. I found an 1862 One Dollar Gold Piece at the Blue & Gray Hunt last March. If you want to make the jump, now it the time to see what you have been missing. Get the new big book on the Explorer & E-Trac and study this to get a better idea. Well, that is my opinion. I have an SE and an E-TRAC. I hunt relics 99% of the time and IMO, the E-TRAC is a much better relic machine than the Explorer. Why do you feel that the Explorer is better at relics My E-TRAC sniffs out those good targets in the iron and trash that others have left behind. With the ET I hunt with the relic pattern, ferrous, 2 tone, and it rocks.

Ok, well, with both, you mainly hunt with sound, and the meter gives you some more info. On the E-Trac the Smartfind screen doesn't give a lot of data since all the targets are bunched up on the 12 line, and for me, it's hard to read. I use the numbers on the ET. With the Explorer, the Smartfind is much bigger and you can use that instead of the numbers - you're looking for targets that don't fall into stereotypical coin locations, so I feel that the Smartfind grid gives you more variables in the data to interpret than the E-Trac and the iron bounce is more helpful in giving more info about the target. Either machine is great, but my opinion is the Smartfind screen on the Explorer gives better data to a relic hunter and the ET just hammers on silver coins. Just my opinion, others may feel differently.

You will not regret the ET at all. With the years you have in this great hobby I'm sure you've heard hype/ this/ that and the other. This machine can and will find the good targets the others have left but put the time into learning it.

Stop lurking and stay for a while, these guys have helped me alot when I first startedand still do.

Your brother Digger won't like you selling the X-Terra, I have both and I believe what ever the Explorer see's the X-Terra will see. I have compared many signals between my old Explorer II and the X-Terra to the point that I just had to stop, to much work. When I had my Explorer II, I would hunt with the Explorer for hours and use the X-Terra 70 for the last 30 minutes. Now that I use the E-Trac, I have not turned on X-Terra in over a year, the E-Trac is so quick to lock on when it's a good target. I had one issue today with the E-Trac that was my mistake for believing all I read on the forum but I will post later on it. I think your in Louisiana, well I will be there in two weeks maybe you can show me one of your hunted out sites and I will let you dance with my E-trac... Happy trails 2 U...

I have discussed this with my brother, Digger, and he too has considered trying the Etrac. Just a lot of $'s to experiment with. Thanks for your response. We live in Iowa so probably won't be seeing you in Louisiana in a couple of weeks, but if you ever get to Iowa look us up.
What was the issue today with the Etrac?

Like Jesse, I have been MD'ing for many years and used a lot of machines. Got an Etrac last Christmas and immediately went back to a pre-1900 yard that I had "cleaned-out" with my Garrett. The very first signal was an 1835 draped bust half dime in EF-60 at 9 inches! It was mixed up with some iron scrap, but the Etrac sang that pure silver song. A few feet away, out popped a 1902 Barber half at 7 inches. That first day resulted in several great coins that I would not have found with any other machine. And since then the Etrac has continued to produce beyond my expectations. Once you learn the machine, you will never look back.

By the way, I was at the Blue & Gray Invitational and saw that gold coin Jesse plucked with his Etrac. It was raining to beat the band but the Etrac performed flawlessly.

Get the Etrac and forget everything else. I have.

Sounds like it does the job well. Does my avitar look familiar? Mine had a darn hole in it though. All the positive responses are getting me pretty excited to try one. I have several spots that I would like to go back and detect again based on things I've found at them in the past. I just know there a more coins being masked and probably some that have been beyond detection depth.
