Me and Goio were attacked today by a theif trying to rob us!!!!

We went to our normal hunting spot in a Chicago public park like any other day. Everything was cool.
I found a 1920 Merc, that is the end of my 71 day silver coin drought so I was happy.

I was detecting when I saw Goio saying something to me. I took off my headphones,
when I say a young guy maybe 16 - 20 years old throw a bottle at him. It missed him, but not by much.
The guy was like 15 feet away from us. I guess Goio was diging a plug when the first bottle came sailing
right passed his head. Everytime he threw a bottle he tried to rush up on us. He prolly thought we would
drop our detectors and he could run up and grab it. Well he got really close like 10 feet from me and whipped
another bottle at me, I saw it coming right for my head so I blocked it with my forearm. Just as before he tried
to rush me. This time I raised my shovel up and said "I'm gonna cut your %$&*@# head off!!!" well he took 1
step forward then ran off. He had another buddy off like 100 feet or so. Prolly ready to call his boys if anything
happened to him.

I wish I could of got my hands on him, I would of messed him up good. But my luck, he prolly is underage and I
would go to jail!!! He was whipping those bottels hard like he played baseball or some thing. The bottle that hit me
didn't blowup on impact, it bounced off. But now I have a big lump on my forearm, but that better than a broken
nose!!!! God I hate thiefs. The thing that bothers me most is that he tried to smash a bottle on Goios head when
he wasn't expecting it. Coward!!!! I atleast knew that a bottle was coming at me.

Oh yea, we still have all of our gear - he got nothing from us.

That's truly a shame. I live near Detroit and I'm rather worried to go out to some of those parks. LOL This doesn't help that fear. However, good thing no one was really hurt.

Sorry to hear this guys... Once the bottle hit you he committed a battery... If you have a cell phone next time call police and have him locked up.... Takes a minute to sign a complaint and get a court date....


If you hit him he would have probably claimed you attacked him. Remember these bums/homeless bust outs have nothing to lose...be safe....

no matter which parks you detect in, in chicago, you have to get in very early 6am ish and out by 10 or 11. i have detected most parks in chicago west south north sides for the past 25 years and have seen all kinds of things. so now i limit my time in them. pat

Yes at Washington Park.

I have been in a lot of fights over the years - the best thing you can do is stay calm. We would of smashed him if we got a hold of him.
After the last bottle (the one that hit me) he ran off like the coward he is.

because I would have waited until he charged towards me and then I would have tackled his A$$ and trust me, he would have needed Medical Attention after the beating he would have gotten from me. Better watch your backs when you return to that Park and this time, maybe keep a Cell Phone with you just in case you have to call the Law on them. Good thing noone really got hurt bad. Get yourself a large Hunting Knife and have it mounted on your belt. All you have to do is show it to a thug like that, and they will run away. That's what I do when I go to not so great areas to hunt. I have carried the same knife for over 30 years. The police thinks that it is just another digger for really deep targets and no problems from them. HH...Jesse.

Glad you are OK! We live in a stupid society, with stupid leaders, with stupid rights for criminals! I say catch them, convict them and 20 years hard labor, and the problem would be solved. Do it again and get life! NO early parole, no reduced sentence, no plea bargaining, no good behavior --- nothing, just life! In other words, do it once, get a stiff penalty, do it again, get lost! What a world it would be, if the good people only ran it. I'm glad you didn't have to have contact with them, otherwise you may have been in court for a long time!! Definitely makes you want to never hunt alone!! Pepper spray and a good club should be standard equipment for where you guys hunt!!

Hello there. It seems so bad now and days that you can't even walk in a park without feeling you're in danger. At least you and your friend are ok and you had a alright time. Taker care and be careful out there.

Too bad that happened. Probably ought to ignore the advice of a collapsible baton. In the continuum of force doctrine of law enforcement, the use of a metal baton and striking someone in the head is considered lethal force. It's the same as using a gun to defend against beer bottles. Unless you want to spend a lot of money defending how it is you hit a 'puke' in the head with a baton cuz he threw a bottle at you, might be wise to know what you risk doing that before you act. This person is a Little 'puke' and if he's trying to injure someone as a form of entertainment he's probably got not a lot to lose. Really! The best advice was already given. Protect yourself to the extent necessary! Call the police and let them handle it. A cell phone taking a video of the act and shown to law enforcement would be extremely valuable. That's what you have to do in a big city park, especially in some neighborhoods. There are some areas in Atlanta that are reasonably safe during the afternoon but some where you have to leave before the thugs wake up.

Things like this really make me mad. Some people really are losers.

In Georgia if the puke got close enough for you to smack him with the baton, the police would arrest him and leave you alone. Besides, the OP baton poster said "break a hand", if the little punk is reaching for you... break his punk hand and make him run away. Then leave before he comes back and shoots you. Of course here we have a new law that allows you to carry a gun in public parks, resturants, etc. People here are fed up with the crap. If I go into the woods my .40 is on my hip. I think the pepper spray and baton is a great idea!

Pepper spray is not lethal force. Not a problem. Nor is hitting his hand with baton. In Washington State, the everGREEN(er) state, I don't think you'd be able to do what you say is OK in Georgia. You do that here and you'd be in as much trouble as the puke who started it. That doesn't make it right. Suppose those circumstances happening and a response that won't jeopardize your freedom really does depend a lot in whose state you are recreating. They won't even let bonafide, commissioned law enforcement officers, while on duty, wearing their uniforms, carry their weapons into a Federal facility in this state. Go to a professional football or baseball game and they want LEO to leave their weapons at home. Stupid really! Maybe this says a lot about the pendulum swinging to far in favor of the pukes.
