MINELAB EXPLORER LIGHTWEIGHT COIL

This is the way I see any 1/2" depth advantage ...

If a rare keeper is 1/2" too deep to be heard with coil "A."
And someone comes along swinging 1/2" deeper detecting coil "B" and gets this rare keeper,
he's got the edge!

Also residing a 1/2" below our current depth capability ( any where we detect ) ~ ~ there's a whole new carpet of keepers !!!

That's a point very well taken, Snowy. We don't know what there is in that next layer if we can't reach it. There's been a LOT of good points made by the guys on this coil subject-lots to take into consideration, for sure. Del

If I calculate correctly, 1 pound, 2.9 oz. for the new one and 1 pound, 5.4 oz. for the the Slimline coil.

From the link posted earlier:

Minelab Slimline (old SE coil) 600g
New Minelab SE pro coil 528g
12 x 10" SEF Detech 648g
15 x 12" SEF Detech 840g
18 x 15" SEF Detech 1034g

How long has the SEF coil been out now? I wonder if Minelab was working on this before those came out. From what I've seen, the MLO SEF users seem real happy with them (except for the weight).

How much does the FBS 1050 weigh?

Mattockman, I er "borrowed" the gifs I use from other sites.

I wouldn't use them commercially, I just occasionally drop one into a post or email to add some fun to the post...
If anybody would like to use the moonwalking guy, just right click on that gif in a post, then select the save option.
It's not my property, so any of you folk feel free to copy any gif I post...
You can insert the gif in a post the same way you insert photos.

Like this one of Bobs !!!

They are designed together with Kellyco.....isn't JW with kellyco?....so Detech and kellyco designed it...but can we buy one now? that is what I want to know.....so many coils so little time......:detecting:

I didn't see the weight of this coil posted anywhere, anyone know what it actually weighs? Before you run out and buy it consider this: The Sunray S 12 weighs 21 oz with the coil cover and is an extremely stable coil in severe ground conditions since it is a DD, has great separation, has found tiny targets at depths I would suspect would exceed this new Minelab unit. It covers a larger area which is what you want if you are in an area where hunting with a 10 inch is justified. It doesn't have all the supports that are going to hang up on fallen twigs, and field stubble. I bought mine used on one of the forums for a good price, they do turn up there at times. Anyway this is just some food for thought since we really want to get the most for our money these days. Now get out there and hunt!

Jeff & Maria---The weight on the new lightweight coil is listed at 528g or 18.6oz. I really like Ralph's (Sunray) products. I bought the S12 new and I used it quite a bit for awhile. It is a stable, sensitive coil for a larger coil (I liked it much better than the WOT 15). The problem I had with the S12 was that because of the lack of supports, both ears cracked on the bottom where they go into the housing (I don't think I'm THAT hard on coils). That's the problem with larger coils, they take so much pressure on those ears from swinging, etc. In that regard-I guess those cross pieces on the new lightweight would help that problem, but I've got some other questions about that coil that I'm wondering about. In any case, the reports from these upcoming tests are going to be very interesting. I still like my "club" FBS 1050 and I have the added benefit of being able to beat off attacking dogs with it!!! Take care, all my friends-Del

RIGHT ON BOB---I messed my right shoulder up about two years ago doing some tree work and it's never came back to normal, the way it was. But I can still get by with the 1050 o.k. providing I can sort of glide it across the surface. I never have liked being all tied to the machine with a bungee, but it may come to that someday. I ain't givin up my "tectin". Del
