My biggest one day tot lot haul ever!!

Ted S

Well-known member
I haven't been out much lately so I figured since the fields are planted I would hit a tot lot. A friend of mine showed up but couldn't hunt due to a bad knee. I think I hunted a bit over 6 hours and I am beat. I have to shoot trap tonight and I don't know if I will be able to hold my Winchester Model 12 up!! The machine used was my trusty Minelab Equinox 600 with a 6" coil on it. I did take my 900 just in case I hunted a larger area requiring the 11" coil. The total take was 8.00 in dollar coins,18.00 in quarters,13.40 in dimes, .45 in nickels and .19 in pennies. Did I mention that was a lot of digging?? While I would rather be digging oldies I will stash this to get car parts for my 69 Dart GTS 340..I have a lot of hobbies! Good luck and happy hunting everyone!! Ted :detecting:

What a day you had!! That’s a huge pile of clad!! I wish I had places around here like that. Congratulations on a super successful hunt!

That tot lot must have been HUGE !!! OMG..virgin territory !!! Back in the day when I first started, I found a small tot lot that was loaded with coins.
After cleaning it out, I wondered onto the grass. Then all of sudden 2 cop cars come barreling onto the feild, CRAP !!! I was read the riot act, handed over my drivers license
and told NEVER come back !!!! Never have... It sure was fun

Amazing you found that much newer clad. People just dont use cash anymore. Friend of mine just told me she only uses a debit card, even at McD's !!!

Great haul and oh my aching back !!!

PS. It was a rainy, drizzly day, I think some little old lady had nothing better to do and called the cops !!!

I bet that grassy area was loaded too Donna… a buddy and I stumbled on to a site like this a few years ago…. Apparently it had never been detected or had not been detected for a long time.. the wood chip areas were loaded with coins and the grass was polluted with coins!!
Fortunately we did not have a run in with the cops and kept on pounding it…

It must have been over 20 years ago, Maybe they lost my record !!!! Im spoiled now, I beach hunt 95% of my time. So digging in grass is a PIA. I have another field which was virgin territory. Only this one had fill dirt from someplace else. I found a good amount silver. I was only cherry picking back then. Then one day, cops arrive. I pass that field on a regular basis. I want to try it again but its a dog park, Lots a problem with the barking and chasing !!!! :) :) :) :)

People just dont like other people digging in their weed infested fields !!!! Ive talked myself blue in the face and only once did I convince someone I wasnt doing any damage.
In the dog park, I said they were doing more harm than I would do in a million years....Please leave......

Thanks everyone! I am quite sore today. That little 6" coil is pretty good! I ran in Park one with the 600 and sensitivity around 22. I found out where a small town had an annual celebration and didn't even hit where the beer tent stood! Research also indicates where a small town has dumped snow for 45 years. I may hit that when it cools off. For those that think a 69 Dart GTS is cool I may post some pics later. It is a B5 Blue with a matching numbers 340 and 727 automatic. Good luck and stay cool out there! Ted:cool:

Ted,
I occasionally run the 6” coil on my 800 and as long as I do not try to move too fast, it does well even in larger areas..I think i tend to hunt closer with it than i do with the stock coil sometimes.
Sure makes the detector lighter too allowing me to hunt longer too..

Excellent hunt.
And Yes. I would love to see a nice piece of history. Bring back memories of fun rides and wild girls in the back seat.
