Amazing day for me. Went to a spot I hunt frequently immediately after work (need my fix!)

It turned into a hour hunt with my E-trac in all metal and sensitivity maxed.

I dug my first hole and realized I left my Propointer in the car! I said screw that I will hunt without it... and hunt I did.

My quick hunt yielded me 1 huge tombac button, 1 somewhat gilted civil war eagle button, and my first Spanish silver. Outstanding!

The silver was minted in Guatemala and the assayer "P".

Outstanding indeed!!!! I appreciate you showing us the pictures of your finds! Please keep them coming. I know what you're talking about getting "your fix"...it has entered into my bloodstream as well!!

Great finds !

And I know what your saying about getting a fix - a few days of rain in a row and I'm going up the walls !
I actually got so desperate - that I hunted the dirt floor in our big barn last winter when there was a foot of snow on the ground ! :detecting:

I can't seem to edit my post (wtf??)

Anyways, I was wrong... it's not a 1/2 Reale it's a 1 Reale. Had to measure it to be sure... the "R" is worn away.

Hey! That is too funny! When I was with you on Sunday we talked about a lot of things that came true. We were talking about situations like walking all the way out to a site and realizing that something was left in the car. Then you asked me if I ever found Spanish Silver and I said no, but I bet there is some out there!

Amazing find! My copper count from the site is 11 or 12, but there is plenty more out there!

Congrats! I vote BANNER....oops there are no banners!

My Copper count out of there is...1

Save some for me!!!

BTW the reale was shallow... like 4-5 inches. I also have a feeling it was only lost 150 years ago, when the rope or chain holding it around their neck snapped. Imagine the look on their face when they realized they lost their keepsake! Ha!

More likely that is was sewn into the garment for safekeeping. This was a common practice for travelers. If this is the case, there may be more holed coins at the site. Off the top of my head, here are the finds from the site in chronological order most recent to earliest

  • A few toasted IH Cents
  • 1839 LC
  • 1838 LC
  • 1823 LC
  • 1819 LC (in the hole with the 1823)
  • 1809 Half Cent
  • 1798 LC
  • Dateless CT Copper
  • Dateless Irish Halfpenny (1780's)
  • A bunch of toasted coppers
  • 1699 Wm III Halfpenny
  • More than 100 civilian buttons
  • Two Royal Regiment of Artillery Buttons
  • Various other artifacts

There is plenty more!

Love to see that old silver come out of the ground, great find..
