My finds (including the Cache on Sunday) from my last 4 times out. Part:1.

Here are the rest of the finds.

Saturday, Dale and I headed out to a Park and a School to try and pop some Silver. We only hunted for a few hours since we didn't get out until around Noon or so. We have found Barber before at the Park but we never detected the School area before so we didn't know what we would find there. We worked the School for awhile, pretty much just wandering around. Dale found a Silver Roosevelt Dime and a few Wheat Pennies. I found just a few Wheat Pennies. We then headed over to the Park and didn't find much here either. Dale found a Merc and 2 Wheats and I found a Wheatie or 2. The Wheats were dated 13,42,45-d,46-d,48-d,51-d, and 53-d. I also found what I thought was a Gold Ring since it registered 8 on Digital but it turned out to be 10K Gold Filled. Sunday was the day I found that Cache of Coins:yo: which I won't post about again.

Monday, I decided to go try my luck at a different Fairgrounds that I have done very well at with Silver in the past. I worked it for a few hours and only found 1 Silver which was a Merc dated 1944. I thought I was going to do really well at first since I found 6 or 7 Wheat Pennies in a row before I even found a Zinc Penny, but it dwindled a bit. I still did fairly well on Wheats though with 14 of them which were dated (2)19,34,(4)34-d(most 34's I have found in one hunt),35-d,42-d,44-d,44-s,46-d, and 55-d along with an Indian Head Penny dated 1905 and an Older Canadian Penny dated 1937. I also found a Junk Amusement Token from a recent Fair. [attachment 92827 DirtyMondayCoinFinds.jpg][attachment 92832 CleanedMondayCoinFinds.jpg]

Tuesday, I had to take a half day off of work to attend some personal matters in Fargo, N.D., so I then decided to go try a Park in town. I got there and found a Wheatie right off the get go at about an Inch in the ground. By the time I left which was about an Hour and a Half later, I had found 1 Silver Roosevelt Dime dated 1951-d, an Indian Head Penny dated 1907 that shocked me since it give me a 27 on Digital (should have read 25 or 26 and there was nothing else in or around the hole and only about 2" Deep), and had found 5 Wheat Pennies during this short hunt dated 18-s,20-s,44,53-d, and 58-d. I will be going back since this was pretty good for a Local Park and there is a lot of area to cover.[attachment 92837 DirtyTuesdayCoinFinds.jpg][attachment 92843 CleanedTuesdayCoinFinds.jpg]

I am going to post the Coins in groups this time in order of the days I went out. There isn't much since I didn't go out like I wanted to but I figured this would work great for you to see the individual results this time from each site I went. Misc. Finds will be posted in Part:2 and all together instead of individually from each site like the Coins. 11 Silver in all with the Cache Counted on Sunday and all the rest of the goodies I found on these 4 short hunt days out. Thanks for looking and Good Luck and HH to you all on your next hunts.

And what settings?

Thanks.

Not that it is a big secret or anything about my Settings or Coils used, just thought I would post it via PM. Thanks for looking BlackX. Good Luck and HH.

I almost forgot about the Misc. Finds I found. They were an Aluminum Snoopy Pendant, a Copper Ring, a Silver Plated Avon Ring, a 10k G.F. Ring with 3 Stones, 2 Bullet Casings, a Button, and 2 Whatzit's. The 2 Bullet Casings have an H stamped in the center of them and these are the first I have found like this. Does anyone know what they are and how old? They were found at the School Site Dale and I hunted at on Saturday. The Larger Casing has 2 firing pins on it, 1 on each side. The 10K G.F. Ring cleaned up nice and has more writing on it but cannot make it out. The Diamond Shaped Whatzit has a Design on it also. Wonder what this item is? Thanks for looking and Good Luck and HH to you all. Hard to tell the caliber of the shell cases but I'm guessing the smaller one is a .32 rimfire and the larger case is a .44 that misfired the first time. The "H" on the case may stand for Henry. Henry was a manufacturer of early cartridges. The .44 Henry was a rimfire case used in the Winchester model 1873 rifle.

I thought I would do something different with this post and see how people liked it. It shows how productive the sites and gives others some added details of just how hard I have to work to get what I do. I am not sure If I will do a post like this again but we will see what the feedback is. Good Luck and HH.

Thanks for the Pic! Neat item you have there. Good Luck and HH on your next hunt.

That looks like a .44 Henry cartridge case all right. That was what the Henry Repeating Rifle and the Model 1866 Winchester rifles were chambered for, and those arms featured a double firing pin so as to reduce chances of a misfire. The Model 1873 was a .44 caliber too, but that cartridge was a center fire and had a slight bottle neck with a heavier charge. I don't remember which ones, but there was one or more of the odd single shot rifles of the Civil War era that were also chambered for the Henry cartridge. Those guns had only a single firing pin and show a single strike ..... unless they got a misfire, or two or three. I've seen a few that were shot in Winchesters (or Henrys) that misfired too, and had two or more pairs of pin strikes before it fired. Here's a hoot for you, now that you know how big and fierce the Henry cartridge is ...... remember those scenes in the movie "Dances With Wolves? where the Hero is shooting down full grown buffalo bulls at long range with a Henry rifle? They were dropping as though struck by lightning. Fat Chance! The small cartridge case is most likely a .32 rimfire, which was used in lots of different small game rifles and in pistols from the 1860s on.
