My finds so far for the year.....at least up until 4/4/10.

Hello everyone!!! It's been awhile since I've posted or have checked things out over here. Been busy doing some things on a token website and work has been getting busier and busier this spring. I hope everyone is getting out and making them great finds that we all like to find and hope that this year is a good one for you all. GOOD LUCK AND HH TO YOU ALL THIS YEAR!!! Now lets get to the small story and the finds.

Well, this year it started out a bit slower but that was alright. Me and Dale decided to go try out some areas he had seen when he had been doing Dent Removal last year. The sites consisted of Parks for the most part and were a bit tought to get any major finds out of. I did manage to pop out a Silver Canadian Quarter though which was a surprise since it was just under the grass where it wasn't visible. I thought for sure it was a Clad Quarter and decided to retrieve it and I was glad I did. I told Dale about it and he just shook his head. We also found some Wheats and other Silver as well but not much as far as quantity goes.

We then hit another small park in a small town and it produced about 10-15 Wheats, a Barber Dime, a few Merc's/Rosie's, 2 Indian Heads and the normal Clad. By the end of the day, Dale and I only had a couple pieces of Silver and a few other finds so it was by far one of the toughest hunts for the year at that point. I also found a Token and a few more things at other spots we tried.

The next weekend Tim, Dale and I decided to go visit some of the Parks we hit last year that we did very well at. We located another Park in the town we were in and all the houses around it were in the early 1900's so I knew there was going to be Barber or Indian Heads here. We started out detecting and I was the first one to find anything. It was about 10 minutes or so into the hunt and I got a nice Deep Injun Hit. I dug a plug and dug down about 8" and there it was. A 1905 Indian Head. Shortly after this I retrieved a 1911 Wheatie. I then asked Tim who was only about 20 feet away if he had found anything yet. Nope! I told him I just recovered the Indian Head and a Wheatie. We then started to work a little more carefully. On one end of this park, Dale was detecting and thought I would make my way over there to check and see if he was finding anything as well. As I got closer to him, the Coins started to come out in more numbers. Dale was starting to work an area pretty heavy and if you know Dale....that must mean he either found Silver or some Injuns. I asked what he had found over in the area he was now hunting and he told me he found a couple Wheats and a Barber Dime. We started working this end of the Park and it sure is funny how many more coins one can find if they just take their time and work a Pattern. Wheats were in good number over here and a few Silver as well. Dale got done working this area and I decided to just keep working right through were he had just been. I think Dale wasn't working as tight of a pattern as I was and I got rewarded for it. I got a good 28 on Digital on my Explorer XS that showed about 6"-8" Deep and dug a plug. Dug some dirt out and out comes a Barber Dime. Alright!!! Went in with the X-1 Probe and another signal. Another Barber Dime! Awesome!!! Went back into the hole and nothing. I then checked the dirt and another target. Merc! Yahoo!!!! I then checked it again and nothing. I rescanned the hole with the detector and there still was something there. I dug a little more dirt out and another coin surfaced. I don't know if this was in the side of the hole but it sure didn't make sense to me why it was in the same hole as the Dimes were. It turned out to be a 1975 Lincoln Cent so I'm thinking that it had to be in the side and shallower. I then covered up the hole and moved on. I also found a Silver Ring, 2 Toy Cars, a Button, a Plastic Tee, and a few more Wheats and a couple more Silver. Tim was doing good as well and had found a Barber Dime, some Merc's, Rosie's, Wheats, Injuns, and a V and Buffalo Nickel on the opposite end of the Park. There's still stuff there at that Park since it was a City Block in size so maybe sometime I will have to stop back and see what else is still waiting to be found. We then decided to head over to another Park where we got a bunch of Barber and Indians from the year before.

We arrived and got the gear out. Tim walked over to where he was finding Coins last year and wouldn't you know it....within the first 10 minutes of being there he pulls out 3 Indian Heads and 3 Wheats in about a 4' area by a tree. I walked over to an area and wasn't finding much but finally come across a 1918 Wheatie. After about 15 minutes or so I decided to go try over where Tim was and as I crossed the sidewalk, I got a good signal about 6' away from the sidewalk. Thinking Indian Head, I dug down and was surprised with a 1905 Canadian Fishscale (5

Welcome back James and great stuff you found.:clapping: It's good to see some coins posted for a change and it looks like you are off to a good start so far this year. I hope your post will encourage more fellows to get out there and dig, weather permitting of course. Again, glad to see you back and as always HH.

James that is incredable:surprised: you always show awsome finds and the story is always a good read. Congratulations on a great start for the year.:beers: I am still working out the details for a trip to ND hopefully the last part of may. I definately want to hook up for a hunt with you and your crew.

Really nice finds, James! :super:

I just recently got back on this forum also. I remember your posts from a few years ago. They're not easy to forget. I particularly remember a series of posts you made hunting from a virgin spot. You and your buddies were pulling out old coinage by the handfuls. Great times!! :detecting:

I see you're still using your XS. What coil are you using the most? Pro?
What machines were your other buddies using on these past hunts?

Good luck pounding those pounded parks!!

HH,

Thanks for your latest update. I really enjoy your detecting stories and appreciate all the effort you put into them. Very nice assortment of coins - I really like the Barber dimes and the early Canadian stuff. I found a "fish scale" last week too and it surprised me-it didn't come up as silver but lower like an Indian head. Nice assortment of relics too - I really like that old broach or pin and that lead horse. I rarely find any lead toys but my buddies seem to find them all the time. Neat finds and HH!

Excellent story and pics! :clapping: Thanks for taking the time to post.

Glad you survived the winter months James!! Always enjoy your posts and pictures of
the items you find on your hunting trips. Glad things are getting busy for you, but also
glad that you can find time to post some of your finds. Continued success and look
forward to more stories, posts and pictures!! HH..... Gold Nuggets :wiggle:

Minelab Pro 11" Coil on my XS and have been using it since it first came out. It's a great Coil and my #1 Coil of choice if you want to search an area with a Coil that equals about the same size as the Original 10.5" Coil. It's good in Trashy Sites but nothing beats a smaller Coil so you get maximum seperation when hunting them really junky areas. Bigger Coil = Less Trashy Sites, Smaller Coil = Trashy Sites. My buddy Dale is also using the Explorer XS with Pro Coil and Tim is using the E-Trac. Thanks for asking and glad you enjoy the finds and postings. Good Luck and HH Captn_se!

we can find for spots if you come up this way and hopefully send you home with some goodies and some great memories. Thanks for the reply and Good Luck and HH to you.

to get outdoors and go looking for potential spots to detect, it either being a Private Property (with Permission of course) or the local Park, Fairgrounds or what have you. You must go out with a positive attitude most of all because if you don't, your chances of finding something is greatly reduced. Think Positive....enjoy the time outdoors doing what you love to do....DETECT......and you may only be a sweep away with your Coil of making some nice recoveries yourself. It's the WEEKEND EVERYBODY!!!! Time to get some SILVERS!!! Good Luck and HH to you all and thanks for bringing this up Eddie. Good Luck and HH to you as well.

Now I gotta run since I have a few hours to detect somewhere before the club meeting. Thanks again and Good Luck and HH to you all. P.S. I still have to do some cleanup on my PM's so if you PM me you may not get through. I'll clean them up later tonight. Thanks. James N.D.

This was a spot over 100 miles away so that is part of why this stuff is still sitting in the Parks. Research also plays a role in some of these finds as well. The more research and further out you detect in your area, the better chances you have at finding some potenial spots with some goodies left in them. Thanks for the reply and Good Luck and HH to you.

Welcome back James. Outstanding finds as usual. I am the guy who goes pheasant hunting in SD for 2 weeks a year. I detect before hunting opens and found a lot of silver. Looking forward to Oct so I can go back to old, outstanding, and uncluttered areas. PJ

Most of the Injuns came from an area of Park that we had never been able to hit due to the amount of people in the summertime in this location so it was a fun hunt when Indians started to pop out. If I ain't diggin' Silver.....Injuns is the second best thing to be diggin' in my book. Thanks for the reply and Good Luck and HH to you.

Well get together and see what we can scratch up out of the dirt. Thanks for the reply and Good Luck and HH to you.
