My first Merc & 3 wheaties

king-ghidorah

New member
Got out for a few hours today. I decided to do around some trees near the road and there is where I found the wheaties. Their in the 1930's range. In fact one of the wheatie was a 3-4 inches over a can so I scalped it out really good with the tone. Then I decided I was going to work the hills a little. As I was going up the hill in my first sweep. I got a good signal but there some trash nearby. This really pronounced itself when i tried pinpointing it. So instead I "nibbled" at the general area and dug about 4-5" when I just seen the rim. At first it looked like a gold ring so that got me going. I carefully grabbed the item with my bare hand and the first thing I saw was the reverse side of a Merc and I knew it was silver then. It's my first Merc and it's in great shape too. 1941. I haven't even cleaned it nor the wheaties yet. Everything is still in shambles in my new place. I think anyone in a hurry or using disc/cheap detector would've missed that wheatie & Merc. Today was good weather for MD. Tomorrow is supposed to be another and I'll get some then too.

I almost drove into a jersey barrier on my way home on the highway. I was looking at an old graveyard off to my right on the highway and then I noticed some old hills overlooking it. That got my wheels spinning. I find myself doing that a lot now. Looking at houses, property, etc. I think I am becoming a MD hore, heehee. Enjoy, I'm taking my daily nap now. :goodnight:

Good job on the pretty merc and wheaties King. I know what you mean about always looking. It's kinda funny, when my wife and I are just driving around, I tend to drive to potential hunting spots even without her knowledge. I'm looking and looking, trying to visualize whats there now as well as what WAS there 50,60 or even 100 years ago. I am pointing out BIG old trees and checking out the sidewalks for age and streets, looking for vacant lots. She thinks I'm spending time with her, which I am, but ALWAYS looking for that honeypot of a place that will yield that big $$ silver!! Oh god I AM SICK...SOMEBODY GIVE ME A YARD TO HUNT BEFORE I EXPLODE!!!!!! LOL

Anyways, good luck tomorrow too....

Hills are a great place to hunt King...folks sitting on a hill to over look whatever...Fireworks....sunsets...etc....Charles(UpstateNY) taught me that....change just rolls out of their pockets....Good luck...and hope to see some great finds from you later....Keep your eyes on the road....I know what you mean....I am always searching the sides of the roads as I am driving...:look:

It's really not Mercury on that dime - I wish people would call it by their correct name: Winged Liberty. Is that your first silver coin? You'll always have fond memories of pulling that first silver and that dime really is in VERY nice shape. The middle bands on the back seem to be full split as far as I can tell. Be careful cleaning it, probably just some soap and water with a soft toothbrush. Congrats!

King-ghidorah,congratulation's on the Mercury dime and wheat's.I'm sure there are more to be found at the site.Happy Hunting Ron

My first silver was over a week ago. A 58 Franklin Half.

This is my first merc. What's with the full split? I do not have my red book with me. It's still packed away somewhere.

SO just looking around quickly it's worth about $15?

Nice job King! There should be more where that came from so keep working them sites because if there is Wheaties, there's more Silver also. Can't wait until you have a multiple Silver day King. Then that will really get you going! Continued Success, Good Luck and HH. :detecting:

A multiple silver day would be ecstatic or even a triple silver - Barber,Merc & a Rosie. Has anyone ever pulled a Quad?

I have done it 2 or 3 times and it is a great feeling when such a feat is done. The hardest to get is the Seated for sure, just depends on the age of the site and how long it was used for. I almost pulled a Quarter Quad also but didn't get the Seated Quarter until the next visit. I had the Washington, Standing, Barber, and even an Old Canadian with the King on it and if I would have pulled that Seated Quarter, then I would have had 5 different Quarters. Anyways, it will happen sooner or later to you when you least expect it King. Hope to see you post a hunt with multiple Silver's soon King. Until then, Good Luck and HH to you.:detecting:

I almost hit a quarter quad slam a couple of months ago too....but couldn't find the elusive seated quarter. The only person I know who ever completed the quarter slam was Golddiger. I got one or two silver dime quad slams last year too. Funny thing about this year was that I could have found TWO quad silver dime slams this year...but on one of the hunts would you believe I couldn't fing a silver roosey:bouncy:

Thanks for the link. I just joined after May so of course I never saw this post. I thought the cartoon that was posted about it was hilarious.

Hope to see some good finds when you get back King. Good Luck and HH.:detecting:
