I thought i would go out for a couple of hours today since they are saying we are going to get 3 to 5 inches over the next few day. There is at lest 3 inches already that just isnt going away because its to cold. Soooo i grabbed the detector and headed out. Everyone keeps saying im hunting in the wooded area so i thought id try it out. I found the snow not only deeper, but the leaves made it even fluffier. Seemed like i was digging 4 inches or deeper just to get to the soil. The soil was soft, damp and very loose... not bad. Now how did i do.... well i found 3 IHs, half dozen wheats with the oldest being 1919, a old cap gun in not the best of shape... but it was still kind of all together, a 1941 Merc, and a token. The token was the coolest find. It was brass and one side had Shrine of the Little Flower, Royal Oak Mich. with a picture of a church.... then on the back it read Charity Crucifixion Tower, dedicated Oct 11, 1931 AD. with a picture of a very tall tower.
What i found out is this tower was dedicated to Saint Therese de Lisieux. She was also know as The Little Flower. The church was initially built in 1925 in a largely protestant area of Royal Oak, Mich.. Two weeks after it opened the KKK burnt a cross in front of it. They built this tower/church as a protest to the KKK as the cross they could not burn in 1931 thru 1936. The tower has christ on a cross which is 28 ft high. In 1998 they declared it a national shrine.... one of only 5 in the US. I can find several old post cards and a Crucifix for sale.... but NO tokens. I suspect they sold or gave these away for a donation at the church while they were trying to build it. Back in the 30s they had a radio ministry to raise funds for the building. Anyone on here found one of these?? Ive got it tumbling so no photo yet.
