Neat detector story

New member
I was out in my yard working on the truck today and my neighbor across the street came over to ask a question. He lost a ring under the back porch. His grandmother was given it when she was a little girl and now it was given to his daughter. he figures it is at least 1920 ish vintage. He said he has a detector and has been searching for it for 2 years and all he finds is nails and a few coins.....it is a bounty hunter pioneer.....so he started to notch out nails after finding so many and put it in shallow mode due to knowing it would be shallow. But still just digs junk. He asked me what it would ID like? I said what is it made of? He said I don't know.....but it has some stones in it. Like rubys or something...and he also said it was very tiny and only fits his daughters little pinky.....she is only 4-5 so it has got to be small......so I said it will ID like foil...but his detector has no foil on it.....so I said then it may be close to Tab or nickle....and asked him if he wanted me to try with my detector since I can determine foil and small gold.....he said sure....so off he went to try again with his detector and I finished doing what I was doing to stop at a good stopping point(good work ethics). I walked over with XS in hand and he was still searching. So I turned on XS and dropped sens. to 12 and put on iron mask wide open....yep just as I suspected.....tons of iron and crown caps.....put IM to -12 and nullsville.....kept swinging slowly and waited for foil curser location......it took me maybe 3-4 minutes and presto....Ring......it was between 10-18k I could not see without magnify glass but I saw the 1 and the k....there were 3 blue stones on it(not rubys).....he about shat himself and couldn't believe it....screeming his wife will not believe this.....thanked me and asked what do I owe ya....LOL....I said nothing, it was my pleasure.....But after I thought about it I could use his shop vac, but thought too late ........lol......went back to my truck and use house vac....so old grandma ring from the 1920's found by Explorer XS in less than five minutes....Bounty hunter over 2 years without success......lol.....:minelab: :wiggle:

I think thats a great story. Good on you for helping your fellow neighbor. If we all did that this world wood be a better place to live.
