Need help with this 1914-D wheat

bought some coins and this 1914-D was in the lot, do you think a peroxide bath would remove the green from it? Would it help or hurt the coin? What do you think it would be worth?

GIMME some opinions please!

I don't think I would clean it at all. Put it on the auction website with .99 starting price, no reserve and I'll bet you get 125.00 for it.

Don't think I would either, it books for $114.67 in Good Condition.

Nice Coin!

Terry-----My wife cleans the wheaties we find (if need be) by a few different methods (depending on the condition) of the coin(s).-----I showed her the picture of your '14D & asked her what she would recommend for that coin.-----She said she wouldn't use peroxide but rather soak it in olive oil for 2-3 days, then VERY gently rub the green area with a VERY soft cloth.----If that doesn't do it, repeat this procedure.---The green may come off in "layers".----One thing for sure, olive oil will not damage your coin---just don't get carried away with overly aggressive rubbing of the coin.-----A little at a time and gentleness with the coin is the key.-------Let us know what you decide to do, I'm curious about this.-----Nice coin, BTW!-----------Del

over the yers I have used peroxide on a ton of wheats and they always come out awesome looking. Other people have told me using peroxide will not hurt and only improve the coin. So I did a 2 minute peroxide bath and all the green came off. I will probably list it on ebay sometime soon. When I get a chance I will get new pictures posted to show the difference.

Glad it worked out for you Terry.----I guess there's more ways than one to "skin a cat". :)----Yeah, we would love to see the pictures when you get time.---------Del

ok here is updated pics, AFTER a quick peroxide bath, I think it looks way better with the blue/green color gone, what do you think?

I mixed 1/2 olive oil and 1/2 lemon juice just enough to cover a buffalo nickel and a 1952 wheat. They were crusty and green, in about an hour green was floating in the mixture and the coins were getting more legible. I think I will let them soak a while longer and rinse, then try a peroxide bath.

I can definitely see an improvement...........did you heat the peroxide? And how long did you let it soak?

well the 1914D sold today on ebay for $119.50 and it has already been paid !!!!! WooHOOOOO, NICE profit!

I know this is going to sound funny but, I have used it many times and, the results are awesome.
Take a raw potato and take the copper cent and put it all the way into the potato.
Let the coin stay in there for 12 hours.
Take the coin out and rinse it off with cool water.
Now, put the coin back into the potato in a different part.
Do this until you get the coin the way you want.
It works "great"
