New area = new firsts! Capped Bust Dime!

Recently met a fellow MDer at a local park, and he gave me a tip on a heavily wooded area that was once home to a Fairgrounds at the turn of the century. It pre-dated 1900, and aerials of it in the 40's showed the location, and that it was no longer in use. So, decided to try my luck out there today, and after 5 hours of hunting, and sacrificing two periods of the Flyers game, I found a 1898 Barber dime, and my first ever Capped Bust dime! A beauty too. It's an 1828 and in Fine condition. So, thank you Chris for sharing this location with me, and I'll definitely head back out there and hunt with ya. I didn't like hunting that deep in the woods unarmed and by myself, so next time I'm going armed or with a buddy. Definitely a lot of history is laying just under the soil there.

Congrats on the sweeeeet silver! That capped bust is really nice.

Went back today to hunt the same area, and didn't find a thing. I mean nothing, not even a clad penny was there. Biggest dud of a day ever for me. Tough working those quad paths cause there's only so much good area to dig. The rest is overgrown with weeds and trees. :(

Hard to believe that there aren't more coins there. Sounds like you need to bring a weedwacker out with you next time to clear some ground for detecting!

Did the capped bust dime come through with the sound and numbers of a barber/merc dime?

A couple of beautiful coins
CONGRATS!

It rang in as a regular dime at first, but was jumpy. When I saw the Fe drop to 1 I just dug it. I'll dig everything with low Fe's and Co's in the 35-49 range.

Have to be armed? Are there lots of bears in those woods? Anyway congrats on your first capped dime, I only have one also, and it has a hole in it 1832.......NGE
