new exterra 705 user statment an question

ive used my new exterra about seven hours. i like it a bunch. i thank minelab should have made the stock coil 8 inch instead of 9 inch. to reduce the weight.its more bottom heavy then any detector ive had. its not real bad but i just cant balance it out with the arm rest to make it that comforable. ive been useing a dfx for 13 years, an through its more heavy then the exterra, it dont feel any heaver. question, does the elip. d.d. coil feel lighter then the stock coil.

My last 705 had the 10.5Dd, and although I've seen mix reviews on the weight,I thought it was good.The performance was excellent.

Jimmy, you might want to check out a DetectingBuddy. BarryNY at Extreme Detecting on Findmall makes them. They are priced right and work well. I have torn rotator cuffs in both shoulders and use one when I have my 10.5" on which is most of the time.

*HF DD Elliptical coil is the lightest in weight at 385 grams w/cable

*6" HF DD........ 407 grams w/ cable

* 9" concentric.. 486 grams w/cable.

The elliptical is lighter as posted above and does not feel nose heavy. Really nice to swing.

I'm surprised there is an issue with the weight of the X-T 705. It isn't balanced, but it seems light to me, especially after using an E-trac for so long. The harnesses on the markets would undoubtedly help you.

The Terra should have been designed with a straight stem and a pro type coil then balance and weight would not be an issue at all. In fact Minelab when you have finished bringing out that incredible Go Find you could upgrade the Terra's ! now that's an idea :)

You can turn the coil around with the mounting ears toward the front, you can also turn the s rod upside down. It looks a bit strange, however it changes the balance point.

Cant do that with the 10.5 in coil without the possibility of it breaking , the machine is not heavy enough to care about the weight unless it has the unauthorized Big coil on it .

{edited because unauthorized equipment isn't discussed here}

ive found a way to make the 705 feel more balanced,by fixing my arm strap. so that i can cradle my arm on top of it, with the strap about an inch from touching the rubber on the arm rest. that angles my elbow up a little, an it makes the detector feel more balanced, therefore making it feel lighter. theres always more then one way to skin a cat.oops hope the humane sys. dont take that serious.

Perhaps If Minelab were to look at the design of the X-T range, they'd note the balancing problem, which some members are seemingly struggling with. It's quite obvious that batteries are weighty, which could easily be housed beneath the elbow, to counterbalance the coil. It's probably quite an easy mod to do yourself really. The thing I'd like is a waterproof 10.5" DD.

No change on this forum. It has been covered ad nausium. They are a clandestine piece of equipment, that is illegal to retail in this country (Patent infringement), that is NOT authorized by Minelab. On this forum we do not encourage anyone to violate the law, nor do we encourage anyone to reward thieves, or to do what the OEM specifically opposes.

I don't care about them making any other coils but those for V-Flex and FBS2 machines, as they are the only patented technology coils (requiring licensing to produce) on the market.

Are you sure its law ? that would have to be passed by the Congress and Senate ? as we here have to pass laws in the Commons and Lords .

There is no law against them here in the UK or Europe, and Oz I think . Anyway if it helps them against the Russians then :)

They have a Patent here and in Oz. It may actually be an International Patent, but not all countries have signed on to that, making it not enforceable in some places.

Even so, it's hypocritical to boast ethics about digging good plugs and returning lost items, only to toss ethics out the window and reward thieves, even if it's just technology that they stole.
And Putin's days are already numbered, so don't think for a minute that you're contributing to his downfall.
