Those are some really nice shots. The gold locket especially came out nice and in my opinion the Franklin half as well. Looks like a bear clawed the 1880 injun lol. Overall very nice and I would also like to know your setup. Joe

Hey Paul your shots are very good how about a shot of the box your useing.
thanks

Rough coppers are definately a challenge... In macro mode the depth of field is greatly reduced, lighting is tricky, and without having 1,000 worth of good DSLR and lenses I have to get a little creative...

I played with lighting last night to no avail... so this AM I working on adjusting the angle of the camera, them played with coin angle and pushing the exposure +1.0... Then did a little adjusting in Photoshop (Brightness and contrast)

Here are a couple of updates... Its low tech right now with just a small piece of paper folded up to give me some angle on the coin towards one light...

HH ALL!

Nice rig. Those are some fine looking pictures.

Thank you ! I use a Nikon Coolpix L19... I think I spend 85$ on it 2-3 years ago... It has a decent macro and 89$ for the rest... 5 bucks each for the clip on adjustable lamp units... So if you already have a camera with a decent macro... It's 100$ - pretty reasonable for what we do...

simple but impressive
Are you a professional Photographer or is this a hobby?
Did photography became a hobby after you started metal detecting coins?
Did you find all those(6) silver dollars? WOW

Thank you and regards

My only interest in Photography is for finds... so I did not start until after I started detecting 3 years ago...

6 Silver dollars are NON Dug... I won 2 of them at our monthly MDing club raffle this year...

Lighting is the key to ANY good photograph, you can have the best subject, best rule of thirds, best juxtaposition best composition but if your lighting sucks a brilliant photo is flat and lifeless... GREAT job on your setup Paul, totally true what they say, necessity is absolutely the mother of invention!!!
