Since I got my E-Trac a little over a year ago I've gone hunting at night approx. 25 times - it's a lot of fun !
Some things are a little tougher at night but I think I have a good system down at this point.
I travel light but I also make sure that I have back ups with me ( "Two is One - One is None") - three small flashlights, an extra pair of reading glasses - an extra 9 volt for my Pro Pointer, etc.
The biggest problem I've found with night hunting is that you can easily leave something behind after you dig - like the Pin Pointer - Digger or sometimes my Glasses - (I've stepped on them a few times) !
Now I "pat myself down" before picking up the machine before moving on and make sure I'm not leaving anything behind.
I also try to hunt open areas after dark so I don't get tangled up in brush or smacked in the face with tree limbs.
Two nights ago I got dropped off at the local beach right around dusk - the weather forecast was good and there was a half moon - moonlight is always big plus!
My plan was to hunt the beach for two or three hours - then stop at an old church and old abandoned house that I got permission to hunt along the 3 mile walk home.
I ended up finding an 1800's brass padlock, a costume grade silver ring and some newer coins at the beach - a 1947 Washington Quarter at the church and 1927 & 1934 Mercury Dimes and a 1944 War Nickel at the old House. I was very happy with the finds - but the thing I'll remember the most about this hunt - is walking home at 3:30 AM - and never seeing another person - just a fox and a few owls !
