Not wanting to sound dumb, but what is power balancing?

This is Monte's power balancing instructuctions -

To Power Balance a metal detector, you should make sure the GB control controls the Disc. mode. This is true of most Tesoro's, for example, except the Lobo SuperTRAQ, Cort

Thanks Ski, I'll give that a try :yikes:

You's are welcome. I have a bunch of stuff that is important to me that I keep on my computer in My Documents folder and Monte's power balancing procedure is one of them.

If you have an all metal mode that is motion, like the Silver umax, you can go to a/m mode to power ground balance it.

And as to why you may want to power balance ...
refer to Monte's post at the following and read point #3.

Monte apologises for rambling ... but I find it a very interesting read!

You are correct that you can adjust the Ground balance with the Silver

Thanks for posting one of my more abbreviated descriptions of 'Power Balancing.' Maybe one of my more brief on ANY topic.

If any one has any questions specific to achieving this with their detector, you're welcome to shoot me an e-mail.

Happy Hunting to all!

Monte

I know there is a video out there somewhere of power balancing a Vaquero and how it got better response on a target after power balancing. I am not finding that video this evening. Maybe someone else has it's location handy.

From what I've read it is said to do this in more mineralized ground. What if the ground isn't really mineralized where your detecting? does power balancing not make a difference in that case?

Hey Bobby think of it this way...

It's like time trials before race day....for every new track you go to you bring the car back to the pit and tweek it to get everything you can out of it.
Do you have to to...no... but if the option is there and you can get better performance from your tools....Why wouldn't you?

If you "Power Balance", it puts the machine about 1/2 turn too Positive. If your machine is too positive, you could loose silver. Tested by myself and our Tech and Engineer.

Robert,
You are getting different results than I have gotten with the Tesoro detectors I have power balanced. When I power balance and then just hit the pinpoint (for all metal) to check it; I get a null in the threshold response as the coil approaches the ground. Doesn't that indicate the detector is set negative of where a neutral setting in all metal would be? Certainly isn't a setting that is too positive. Agree that too positive can loose silver.
Cheers,
