Nows A Good Time To Sell Your Scrap Copper

E-Trac-Ohio

Well-known member
I've been throwing all of the scrap pieces of copper that I found metal detecting last season in a plastic tub. Number one grade copper is bringing an all time high here in Ohio - $3.28 a pound.
I took my in last week - you know - all the little pieces of pipe we find around old houses, copper fittings, etc. They gave me $33.00 cash for it - what the heck - buys a little gas.

Nice! My hunting buddy is an electrician. He is cleaning up (around the job) and cleaning up on the scrap copper. A 5g bucket can be close to $200.

you get a better price if its clean i wonder if my wife would object if i put it in the washing machine

At my local scrap yard they have two prices, clean or not clean. They told me not clean is copper with the wire coating still on it, all other copper they consider clean. So all I do is brush off the dirt and throw it in a bucket, I don't wash it by any means. All they are gonna do is melt it down anyhow. Most of the stuff I take them is black or green with patina, they don't bat an eye a it. I also save all my brass. I took in two buckets last year from detecting, one brass and one copper and got $99 bucks. I have no idea why people throw this stuff away? But they will keep pennies.....lol. A chunk of copper pipe is better than finding a clad dime!

You have inspired me to collect all of my treasures "junk" sort them out and see what I get.
