Octagon coin - need help

Member
I looked at my coin book and have been googling with no luck, Been googling hours. The octagon coin has no hole and looks like a flower/palm/cannon on the photo....the back has nothing identifiable.. The small coin is slightly bigger than a dime and fraction smaller than a penny...almost 1/2 as thin a a penny...nothing identifiable. guesses will be helpful for the 2nd small coin. Planning on ultrasound cleaning if coin shop has no leads tomorrow. link to original photo,,,enhanced photo shown. Thanks!

Thanks - I enhanced photo to reveal detail, might be a token? the small coin is slightly larger than dime for reference. just finished 3 more hrs on google...this is getting obsessive!

Iraq had a currency beside the dinar called a fils. they changed them around a lot, made commeratives and such from previous rulers. there were several that had 8 sides, octagon. same denomination changed shapes and designs a lot. the palm tree look was common. i believe it may be an older one brought back by who knows? several sites. they also had triangle coins. try belazelcoins.com i believe was the site. good luck. that makes this hobby fun!

Thought this unknown coin was identified, came back to the forum post to refresh my memory and lo behold...still unknown. Now I have a 2nd unknown coin found within 30 feet of the 1st. This one is more legible and I can make out a 1947 date, may actually be stamped "N 1947" Possibly copper.

a quarter with the unknown I need help identifying.

Thankyou

recent find has a hole, 97.4% sure the 1st one does not have a hole. Both have the # 1947 and looks like the # was stamped after it was made.

The hole is interesting...maybe they both have holes and and it is a tag wired to crate for shipping? It does have graphics like the dinar related coin mentioned above, but no match. What about metal casino chips with inventory # stamp? Such a thing?

ultrasonic cleaning chipped out a piece, looks like a ceramic base material then copper plated...interesting. Higher resolution scans show some more detail that may help with identifying,

Can you make the same image for the other side? The graphic on the other side may be more telling and give something to search.

Yes, but as of now, only the arc accents are legible. As soon as I figure out the rest of the graphics, another inspired render will appear. Currently working with super wild guesses.

I photoshopped it assuming a similar pattern on each side of the graphic. Here is an original and the imposed view along with an animated version to compare the differences made.
Animated GIF

Do you still have the first one that you posted at first? The reverse side in question may reveal a portion of the graghic enough to piece together with this one. A small amount could help a lot, kind of like connecting the dots with only a few dots missing.

Here is the ID, took a couple hours but it was mostly a photoshop goose chase. Slot machine token, Mills Duplex Bell Token Fits Mills High Top Duplex Bell Machines. Another match says 'Token Bell', Likely what your is only judging by the number on the back. Both begin with the letter N.
positive ID here.<----<<<

I think yours says Token Bell, I think I see the T in Token in THIS ANIMATED GIF. Not completely sure, it can also be a D in Duplex.

Aarong81,
That is freek'n amazing.
I don't know how you do it...
Great ID

I have been working on deadlines and decided to check if any leads posted before I hit the sack.

...I think I am going to be up a little longer

This is awesome. Aarong81, I am still in disbelief, I was mesmerized by the gif and planning on exploring some gif exercises...then BAM you posted a photo of the coin. How did you crack this wazzit? I keep interrupting this post.. I just googled "Mills Duplex Bell Token" and the flood gates have opened, How did you find? Seriously I have 25+ hours looking for an identification...AND REALLY doing it wrong, because if it was a snake it would have BIT ME. What was the search or what was the lead to ZERO you in on the target?

I searched tokens, I searched casino tokens, chips...missed it, missed the lead, either that OR google hates me- haha

thank you, no THANKYOU.

uh, tomorrow I am going to set some time aside to organize my thought. thinking now Aarong82... Definitely +1

I havn't been on here lately, sorry I havn't replied sooner. I broke my forth metacarpal in my hand and been laid up taking it easy. How I found your token was by accident really...I think. I thought I could make out a date on it while i was photoshopping it. I thought I saw 01 as in 1901 perhaps, So I googled 1901 octagon token and switched to images. This video shows how I stumbled on it with such a random search. It turns out that 1901 had nothing to do with it but somehow google doesn't show it with any other year in place of 1901, at least with that search string. I wonder how long it would've taken to find it if I hadn't thought I saw 01?

Aarong,
Get well soon! Injured hand is NO FUN, hopefully you are medicated properly.

I got chills watching the video. Is that weird or what?...I guess all the time I invested in the fruitless search opened a void in my subconscious that was just satisfied. I too, have been neglecting the pleasure of findmall.com...due to work. just visited to post a fossil I found, and decided to check on this post.

gotta get my priorities straight.

Thanks for the video satisfaction! Thanks for the find again.

May the luck be compounded for your good deeds,
