OK-POINTER RECOMMENDATIONS?

Sunray is the Only way In my opinion Bud.Its the X1 probe you want..works on the explorers/e-trac.Check out ralphs sunray forum here .HH
 
The X1 probe is the only pinpointer to get.Same sounds in your headphones same curser location.Simply the only way to go.
 
You really should carry two. Definitely the X-1 -- I wouldn't want to be without it. Very good macro pinpointing, however, a real PITA for finding something you can't see in a pile of dirt or at the surface in your hole. It's too wide. I use the Vibra-Probe as a secondary unit to do a very narrow pinpoint if I need too (can't see the dirty target in the dirt). Great combo.
 
The Sun Ray X-1 is great. It make's you wonder why the detector companies don't build them into their machine. Maybe they will eventually. Save's you time and scratched coins. :thumbup:
 
A vote for Garretts Pro Pointer.

Depends on if you like to wiggle your probe after sticking it into the hole.

If you have to wiggle your probe, then satisfaction depends on your ability to wiggle it.

My probe performs flawlessly without having to wiggle it. Very sensitive and good at finding just the right spot.

Well...are you a wiggler or not?

I have both the X-1 and the Garrett. I use the Garrett when I'm detecting steep hills or in thick brush, making the X-1 slightly difficult to operate due to the cabling. Otherwise its X-1 all the way, because of the added tone ID. This really helps to quickly determine if you've mistaken iron for a coin.

I have the Sun Ray and the Garrett. For the E-Trac I like the Garrett better. No cables to mess with. I think they both perform the same.
 
Sun Ray. I have vowed I will not buy any new machines unless there is a Sun Ray available. I saw a guy using one of those Garrett things and it's NOISY! I could hear him 300 (or more) feet away. I don't know about you, but that's not the kind of attention I want to attract to myself in a park. There is no way to adjust the volume on it either... so be forewarned.

The Sun Ray uses the detector electronics, and let me tell you, it's awesome to get an iffy high tone on the E-Trac, expecting a wheatie, and then you open the hole and put the probe in and it sings high silver. BINGO! :detecting: I also like that the Sun Ray is mounted on the detector... nothing extra to forget, lose or carry. I own three machines and every single one has a Sun Ray probe on it.

Meaning no disrespect but unless you have super hearing there is no way that you can hear the sound of a Garrett ProPointer at 100 yards.

And for those of us that have used them for a while all you do is put your thumb over the speaker to muffle what sound it does come out if it's an issue.

Both the Sun Ray & Garrett are good products, depends on the user. My Explorer & Etrac are heavy enough--I don't need the extra weight. For others it's not an issue.

I have tried several pinpointers from the basic harbor freight model, to the Automax Percision 4 (monster) to the DetectorPro Pistol Probe. I even borrowed a Garrett Pro and used it for a day as well. All worked to a degree but I guess it all depends on what you want. For me it was a mixture of depth, accuracy, and convenience.

For me the Sun Ray is the best for the reasons given already by others. I think that using the probe to hear the same sounds you are used to from your machine IN your headphones is the only way to go! As Nick A said, I wouldn't go hunting without one.

One last thing, it is way better than an "OK-Pinpointer" so it may not be for you! :lol:
 
I just got my Sunray last Thursday... All I can say is I won't use anything else now... I especially like narrowing the target even closer using the pinpoint mode on the detector when I'm off alittle bit...

Ahh, if only I did have super hearing. :biggrin: Or a super brain or good typing skills. Let's try 30 feet.
I should not try to multitask some days. My point about the annoyance factor still stands though.

thanks for all the input,i got the wife the garrett pro and it works very well she loves it i tried the pistol pointer way to sens.and bulky so i am going with the x-1 and if i need back-up i always have the misses.thank you all.HH
 
No problem, Nick. I know some guys who put a piece of tape over the speaker; I just put my thumb over it. It is a little shrill at times.
