Old Homesteads near Boyne City Michigan

Royal

Well-known member
George reminded me of this old homestead, well it is two of them. The first is one of the spring I was talking about and the second is the gully it is half way down on the left. All that is left of the homestead is a cellar hole which I did not take a picture of.

The rest of the pictures are of another homestead on the same property. It has a cellar but the building fell down into it and there is a buzzard nesting in the rubble, at least there was when I was there a few years ago. The rest of the pictures are what are left of the out buildings on the homestead.

The owner has a couple hundred acres and there are more old homesteads on it. Nice area

You are sure right about the Harmonica Reeds. I have found many of them around old home sites. Everyone must have played them/

Someone starts off with a site or two, then they get interested in exploring old sites. After awhile, you end up with more sites to explore and not enough time to explore them all. Some of these sites are difficult to locate due to over grown brush, weeds, trees and snakes. Your post was interesting...thanks for posting the pictures too! Kelley (Texas) :)

I can not remember what I found. Some old junk like the harmonica reeds and such. Few coins but nothing much. I only hunted for an hour or so though and never went back. I might go again if he still owns it
