Old Park gives up another Oldie

The very first signal I dug today gave up this Shield Nickel with an unreadable date. Nothing to speak of after this one.

I cleaned it up the best I could. A little naval jelly to get the rust off and a light dusting with some steel wool.

The Shields were made from 1866 to 83 so if nothing else, you have a contender for the FOM. It might be my imagination but I seem to see the date of 1868.....

Nice find........ VERY nice.

Have I told you how much I LOVE old nickels? You've got a very nice one and congratulations on your find. Love to see those nickels rescued. HH, Nancy

I recomend a brass brush instead of anything steel to clean up an oldie.
