opinion on spare battery

Hi all, Purchased my e-trac and looking for opinion on getting a spare rechargeble battery. Do you guys(and gals) find it worth it to have a spare or would it be something that is really not a necesity. Does anybody ever run there battery down while out hunting. Also how many hours do you get on a full charge on average? One more thing whats a spare cost?

I have the spare rechargable it was part of the super package deal I got when I bought my e-trac, I also have the battery slim pak as well. It it nice you come back in from a hunt pop the battery in the charger load the fresh one that you just charged and your ready to go. I have a small pouch that holds both rechargeable back up and battery slimpak so I just take them along in case I would need them. I think the rechargable pack is about $69 thant is the most common price I seem to see. Right now I think they like so many other things are on back order from Minelab but some dealer may still have some in stock.

Personally I only run the rechargeable one. I know I've put close to 14 hrs. on it and still didn't get that "low" battery countdown yet. If I were going to be gone for more than 2 days I'd probably take the AA's to use also. I've never used the AA pack as of yet...that re-chargeable one lasts a long, long time for me.

I always like to carry (2) battery packs with me - the old "two is one - one is none" theory.

Last year I bought ( 8 ) NiMh 2650 Duracell rechargeable batteries and two Duracell charger ( each holds 4 batteries ) at Walmart's for approx. $35.00 total.

Much cheaper in the long run than buying disposable batteries.

Also, be sure to read the battery section of your E-Trac owner's manual - some types of batteries can actually damage your machine !

I charge my rechargeable battery the night before I hunt and that way I don't have to think about my battery all day while I am hunting. I have been doing that with my Explorer II, SE, and now with my E-Trac. I have never had a Minelab battery go out on me for being charged too much. I did have a wall charger go bad once. I charged my Whites batteries like that too for close to twenty years and only had one battery go bad on me.

My Explorer II battery use to only lasted 7 hours or so. That one did go down on me a couple of times but I always carried the alkaline battery pack in my detector bag. Minelab improved the batteries or the detectors when the SE came out so the 1600 mah rechargeables now lasts a lot longer. I think I only used my alkaline battery pack in my SE once in a three and a half year time period and that was when I forgot to charge my battery. I sold my personal alkaline battery pack to someone that needed to get his Explorer XS going last winter and I have not had one until last week since they were on back order and luckily I never needed it for my E-Trac.

Some of my hunting buddies like the 1800 mah batteries,. They say they will last all weekend long plus more. They are a little expensive though. I sell them for $99.95 shipped. The 1600 mah rechargeables that come with the detector are $69.95 shipped, and the alkaline battery packs are about $19.95 shipped.

It is a lot cheaper to just charge your battery the night before you hunt and if you need peace of mind in a way of a back up just carry your alkaline holder in your truck.

Well, I'd rather dig for stuff than go home and re-charge my battery! So yes, a spare is a good thing. I use AA's just because you can get them anywhere if needed!
