Pinpoint button failing

archer

Member
The pinpoint button on my E-trac is failing. I have to push it multiple time to get it to work. Has anyone else had this problem, and is there a fix other than sending it in for repairs? I don't relish the thought of being without it for an extended period.

Thanks for any input and happy hunting.

Ensure that you are not near the objet in question before you press pinpoint

Sorry to hear that. The reason I'm sorry is that it happened to me about a week ago, and now my menu button no longer works either.
It appears to be a computer glitch because if I turn the machine off for a while and turn it back on I can get both buttons to work for a VERY short time
before it locks up. I'm really P.O ed cuz I called Minelab (twice) to talk about the repair and the time frame and no response in over a week. Guess we're a
couple of the unlucky ones.

I rarely use PP button, I just use wiggle and pull coil back method. You gotta figure the PP button is used more than anything, and it is bound to wear out before other buttons

Man that sucks!---You'll probably have to send it in, sad to say.---I've never had that problem with any of the Minelabs I've owned.---Had a few other problems over the years but not with the pinpoint button.----Their turn around time on repairs used to be about 2 weeks.---Don't know what it is nowadays as I haven't had to send a machine in for a long time.--Doesn't something like this always happen right when you're wanting to use the detectors! :veryangry: -------Del

I have about three calls in, been over a week, no response. :veryangry:

Maybe the solder joint to that chip is cracked?. At least you can still get close, and then dig a bigger plug. Sucks that to get it fixed you gotta send it in.

Hi archer,
That does suck. I am a bit worried because I have noticed that every once in a while my Pinpoint will need to be pushed harder the second time and reading about yours kinda gets me fretting. My machine is only a month old and I hope I am not headed that way as I really like the ratchet pinpoint on the nice yards I have been working this month. In a different area I just use the tip of the coil and dig a big hole ...but on those nice yards if your gonna get invited to come back you better use a pinpoint and that is one of the main reasons I bought the e trac is for the pinpoint on areas like that.
I hope that Minelab gets its stuff together...My first machine 7 years ago I sent in and they treated me like gold but now I read that those days are gone. Well in the mean time I will be very carfull with my button...but its hard when your so focused on finding the digs!

good luck hope you get it fixed fast!

That does suck and it also sucks that Minelab customer service is getting a bad reputation for resolving issues. This is not very pleasing!
