Pinpoint?

Ray Hogan

Member
Watched a youtube video last night that showed an Etrac demo with an iron square nail next to a small gold ring. Guy was showing how to locate the ring when it was next to an iron target that was discriminated out (nulled-on). The strange thing was when he went to pinpoint mode and showed it "hitting" on the ring and not on the iron nail. And he said something like, "and of course the pinpoint mode won't pick up the nail". I thought the pinpoint was an "all metal" mode....am I missing something? Thanks, Ray (broken foot) Hogan.

Ok . I seen the same video the other day and was wondering the same thing. I am very new to the E-Trac and just thought I was missing something. I am very curious about this myself

Pinpoint assists you in locating the exact position of a detected target. Normally E-Trac is a

turn around the targets like he does in the video and get the ring to repeat more pinpoint should lock onto it. This has been my experience in the field too so I would have to agree. Mike

Well, I'm an internet novice, so I'm not sure how to post the link. But, it's at Youtube and titled "Pro Coil Metal Detecting Tricks (part 1)" by "neswiper" and dated Oct 15, 2009. Check it out and post back. Ray Hogan.

It is kind of interesting, he explains it very well and there are several disclaimers but still... when he pinpoints the iron it does not sound? I thought pinpoint was all metal myself!!

That has been my experience also..........

Your Sun-Ray probe will act the same as your large coil. So if you have programed your machine to discriminate iron or whatever the probe will react the same. All the probe is doing is reacting as a 1 inch coil using the same program as the large coil. I may be wrong but it seems like that is how Ralph at Sun-Ray explained it. Hope this helps.
